  • Despite 2002's poor reputation, with reviewers panning the vintage and many producers choosing not to bottle a 2002 BdM, I really enjoyed this. It was not thin, 'funky', or unripe as many reviewers describe. Instead it had a pretty nose with a high note of bright red fruit, it had a brambly profile with some underbrush and just-ripe black and berries, finishing with a surprising minerality, iron, and a pleasing (to me) slight bitterness from the fine tannins. After a few hours it did change, at once loosing focus in some sips, while seeming to gain weight in others, becoming a bit like a norther Rhone at the end. In any case, this was a very nice wine. Not great QPR, but not a disappointment either.
