  • This was a wine I thoroughly enjoyed tracking over the course of the night. My first experience with Gérard Raphet as a producer, I was eager to try this the day I got it, but waited a month until I opened this bottle up. The wine immediately came off a little thin, but I persevered and allowed it to slow oxidise for about two hours before dinner.

What a difference two hours makes.

The power of the wine began to emerge the moment we poured it into our glasses, boasting a nose consisting of blackberries, leather and tobacco. The palate opened up with an upfront that pushed a balance of raspberries and a funky sous bois note. The mid-palate continued on with that funk as a hint of blackcurrant medlied with a mossy / vegetal note that eventually became subdued. The finish was really powerful as notes of iron, leather and spices all medlied together across some well integrated acidity. This was a wine worth letting open up.

  • Nice nose when opened. Though little thin and acidity is high. See how this will develop.
*2nd night. Viscosity has taken on a lot more weight. Opened up on nose and palette. Acidity has calmed down. Everything has integrated for the better. A lot better.

  • faded amber-red, some bricking; Cherry syrup notes, forest floor, pine; high acid, rich, a bit heavy on the palate, med length. Not showing as well as it should. This was better a few years ago as a youthful Burg. At Monopole.

  • Tiny forest berry fruit, just ripened and eaten out of the basket, fresh, elegant, almost candied little red and blue berries with a cool pearly dew drops drop. Good pale purple, almost ethereal in lightness. Not especially complex, but could drink a bottle very quickly and easily. With wild Sockeye salmon at Bri's.

  • A really excellent bottle. Classic expression with excellent balance, but also with a wonderful earthiness with just the right touch. A great value at this price point.

  • Light pale ruby; lovely perfumed nose, dried spices, sour cherry sweet tarts, light, elegant, but medium plus intensity good sappy flavor, some light tertiary notes of pot-pouri showing through. Very much enjoyed this. Compared with '05 Bachelet Bourgogne--which was much darker with hardly any age showing. 91-92 MEM meeting.

  • This is quite good. This is not the Cuvee Unique bottling. This is light in color. This is classic elegant burgundy. The fruit is ample, sweet red berries, with a hint of herbs, spice, and minerality. There is good acidity and wonderful with food. This is a good village level wine.

  • Small berry fruits, floral, red raspberry, cherry, perfumed, medium body, sweet-tart red fruits. Very nice, could use another 2-3 years.

  • Nose of cherries, a bit more vegetal... more tannins, cherries and red currants, a bit less fruit
