Shot. I don’t mean to shock you but right now, about ten years into this drinking wine thing, it has occurred to me that there are people who buy a case of Burgess Special Selection (or anything, I guess) and then at some point fail to store it properly. And then they try a bottle or two and it’s terrible. And then instead of calling that tuition or experience they then sell the rest of it. I’m not saying that’s what happened here but I have had enough really cooked wines I’ve brought from retailers and auctions that it’s not just bad luck. It’s people cutting their losses. I have a request: don’t do that.

Opened an hour before grilled steak dinner. Well balanced, tannins and fruit - not musty, none of the unpleasant notes of an old wine. A long way from done. Delicious and gone. Everyone loved it.

Simply stunning. Classic old Cab tones of dry cedar, cherry, eucalyptus, black tea. Plenty of grip and fruit left but in a very attractive place right now.

Perfumed with fruity aromas and herbs. After a few hours, huge perfume, a hint of cedar and strawberry candies. Quite impressive with big fruit and a long finish.

Cork looked and came out like new. The color is still young with a clear meniscus! Started out tight and tannic but smoothed out over the evening and turned absolutely beautiful with aged Cab aromatics and wonderful cherry, eucalyptis and minerality. Good acidity makes it very food friendly also. This is classic stuff! Many years ahead suprisingly.

Sweet mentholated cherries and vanilla-chocolate aspect on the nose, also floral elements. smooth soft and restrained on the palate. Med + acid, med- body with one cherry focused dimension. Amazing w cherry chocolate bars! 88+pts

floral nose of lavender, cedar, fresh cigar wrapper, cassis. High acid brings freshness to the palate but at the same time distracts bc the stuffing isnt quite there. Smooth cherry flavors with a short-med finish accented by earthy tones.

1 hr. decant Color: Medium ruby (if there is such a thing) with a touch of crushed red brick. Nose: Veggie, earthy tones, very subdued fruit. Texture: Pleasantly smooth. Little sour cherry coming through on the front end through the finish, mixed with a little bit of dust.
45 minutes in. Starting to open up now. Leather components on the nose, Fruit starting to show itself.
2 hours in. This is one decent older Cali Cab! Addition of cedar and oak the nose and palate. Little more black fruit as well. Still a nice smooth finish.
Last glass, end of bottle 3.5 hours in. Where did the wine from hour 2 go? Everything noted earlier has gone. If this had been glass #1 or 2, I would not have gone forward this evening with #3 and 4.
Overall, it was a nice bottle of wine. As you can see it's meant to be had shortly after opening.

Wow...smelt like a funky battery when first opened. Really came around after 30 mins of air and showed subtle blueberry fruit and great aged tannic backbone. Held up well. I would only stretch a wine like this for a few more years.

Excellent wine, 20 years old, and still at least 5-10 more years ahead. Cedar, cherry on the nose, still good fruit left, beautiful

Past its prime - still drinkable but lacking in distinction. Tannins have faded. Pleasant cherry fruits.
