From magnum, in a great spot though slightly past prime. Fruit, wood, acid and tannin all integrated well at this point with fruit fading just a tad. Classic napa cab flavors and no evidence of post-harvest manipulation which I'm impressed with as this is Round Pond's first vintage.

This bottle was bangin' pretty good tonight. Clearly valley floor fruit, it was deeply ripe and juicy but without any mountain zest, pepper or tannin. I think it is at peak. Drink now or in 1-3 years.

Great bottle with solid structure. The nose was somewhat herbal with dark cherry. The palate was filled with dark berries, currant and some dark chocolate. Finish was long with soft tannins. Really good bottle all the way around.

Generally, folks love the 2002 vintage from Napa. I love them too - they are big, fruity, rich, and fun. I've often called our own 2002 "our party wine." 02 Napa Cabs are loud music and colorful balloons. (And no small amount of alcohol.) The 2002 Cab from Round Pond fits right in with its peers: massive raspberry, currant, campfire, molasses, and vanilla. The thing holding this wine back - and what has held many Cabs from this vintage back - is a lack of developed, secondary, earthy flavors that can round out a wine and make it special. It's always hoped that these flavors will develop with time but at least with the 2002 Round Pond, I don't immediately perceive the necessary structure to develop further.

Very good cabernet for price point, full bodied well balanced cab, fruit forward style, will age well with more time. Aromas strong dark fruit with a sweet vanilla, flavors traditional blackberry and sweeter plum on the front, the midpalate had a heavy cocoa and cedar feel, finish needs time to develop but was good, a bit chalky throughout which dissipate with time. Kudos to Round Pond as the 2002 was its first vintage.

Few primary notes, lots of smoky blueberry, leather and hints of oak. Nice but starting to slide. Drink now.

Sam's California and the Pacific Northwest Tasting (Chicago Store): Had a taste at Sam's California Night. A little dusty, chalky and tight. But a great Cab none the less. Still needs a little moe bottle time.
