Did not enjoy this bottle as much as the other Tuscan Merlots today. Thought this was somewhat overdone, too massive, too sweet and some rough oak still. Not a bad wine, just not as elegant as I would prefer. - 90 points

Massive wine with lots of oak, chocolate, ripe dark plum, dark cherry, and cassis on the nose. More oak on the palate with noticeable alcohol, very very ripe flavors, more dark fruit, toast, and charred wood on the palate. Medium finish. Hard to drink and not at all my thing. Much too ripe and little finesse. However, it did taste quite a bit better on day 2 and I can appreciate the overall quality of the fruit, so I’ll give it that. Might score quite a bit higher for people who like this style of wine.

Very ripe dark and red berry fruits and beautiful garrigue in the bouquet. On the palate beautiful and mature with impressions of earth, autumn forest and beautiful acidity and still a lovely bite. A great pleasure now, but probably wise not to wait much longer.

From glass. A fall-in-love nose of creamy dark fruits and menthol - delovely. Similar palate, with bitter tea and astringent meaties. Balanced, finessed - doesn't bowl you over. Wish I had had a bottle and an evening of food...

thick and bold as it was four years ago. Taste has not softened and tannins are still there. Plums and dark chocolate over all, some roasted coffee and marasca blueberries. Started drinking at La thuile after a bike ride to Morgex ane gloriously finished under the blades, PD strongly approving

Wow einfach geiler Merlot. Braucht ein paar Minuten Luft und dann geht die Post ab. Dunkle Beeren, fein, dicht. Die Struktur passt. Könnte ich immer wieder trinken, mit dem Wein wirds nie langweilig. Hat noch Jahre vor sich. Leider letzte Magnum...

The nose was zesty and seductive, showing spiced blueberries, dried cherries, sweet tobacco, cedar dust, smoky minerality, and a hint of sage. On the palate, silky textures were offset by brisk acids, creating both a mouthwatering yet elegant expression, all at the same time, as notes of tart dried cherry with savory spice and minerals penetrated the senses. The finish was long and spicy, displaying youthful tannin against a backdrop of dried red fruits, tobacco, cedar and inner florals.

this wine was tasted relatively late in the evening, and thus it got less attention than it deserved. I think it also deserved more air. still young, i found this wine complex and fruit driven with lots of stuffing. huge tannins and searing dryness make for a tough drink even 12 years out. This bottle can last many years still, and should i be lucky enough to come across it again, I will give it a serious decant.

Drinking very nicely right now. Expected to have to decant for an hour but was immediately approachable upon opening. Tannins were soft and supple. Beautiful wine.

I should have read the tasting notes first, but this is very austere and young and not as enjoyable as it will be in a few years. You can taste the potential but it’s not there yet...
Update: I poured most of this back into the bottle, there the cork in and then left it in the fridge for 5 days. Now it’s delicious! I’d give it 95 points today. Clearly this just needs a lot of time in the bottle or else several hours (6-8+) of air.

still very young and somehow rude and uripe. Great stuff that needs cellaring for at least three to five years to get more roundness and pleasantness. Austere and closed, red fruit, earth, light note of rosemary and graphite. Will open my other bottles in 2020 and 2022, sure will improve further

I felt it was the right time to drink it, as in a past experience of three years ago, its violence was dominating (14,5° alc.). Round, smooth, well balanced.

The 2007 is super, displays wonderful symmetry, and has great definition on the nose, but at less than a decade old had only begun to hatch from its primary flavours. Drink 5+ years.

Beautiful dark red colour. The grande nose of apples filled the wine room during decanting (4 hrs). In the glass it is still young, with mainly grapey aromas. The mouth is where everything comes in to being. This wine is all about structure. Very well balanced with a distinct and perfect balance of all components. Acids are lower than usual with Italian wines, and blinded I'd for sure have gone with a high end Cali Merlot. Tannins are powdery fine grained and M++. Its youth makes this a wine that I wish we'd kept as it is a keeper. Many interesting aromas will for sure develop over time. Our only btl, really wish we had more to keep for possibly more than 10 yrs. Wife: 93p With a re-invented menu at fantastic La Rochelle 'Sanno'.

Just limited notes because I was enjoying the wine too much. In the concentrated bouquet very ripe fruits and a beautiful toast. On the palate a refined and complex blockbuster. Extremely soft and pleasant.

Compared to the Casalferro 2008, which we drank in a restaurant 2 days earlier, this is a stringer less fruity, however mor elegant wine. Nevertheless you imediately realize, its a 100% Merlot. I loved it. Wine is produced in limited amounts, therefore not much wine is exported from Italy. Regular selling price is between 40 and 45 €.
Tasted at La Botte Piena in Montefollonico (close to Montelpulciano). After that we had a 2006 Tignanello, which could not stand up to the La Ricolma.

Deliciously compact yet dusty Italian Merlot. Easy to drink and enjoy and filled with Tuscan warmth. Even though concentrated it is nicely balanced and with a nice spicyness.

Deep saturated red. The nose bursts from the glass with cool black and blue fruit as well as glue and marzipane. Very pure fruit, great balance. Very primary right now, but provides great drinking pleasure. This is not Masseto, but at the price it's close enough.

Inaugural of Martins new House (Martin Rickenbach): Blackberry jam, vanilla, hint of glue, marcipan lots of acidty. This could have been a new world wine if it were not for the high acidity, that gave away that it was an Italian wine

Interesting. Maybe a little young? Black cherry, coffee, licorice and mint. More tannin than I expected. Tastes like a little cab in the blend?
