Nothing special, but at $6 I can't complain. Let it breathe quite a bit, which helped a lot - sweet but dark nose, less complex on the palate. I would get this again at this price.

A nose of sweet dark fruit, dark purple in color. A smooth, medium bodied fruity red. Blueberries, plum, licorice, some chocolate, a simple easy drinking nothing complex midweek wine, hey it’s $6.99, has a cool label.

Dark chocolate coated berry aromas, plum, licorice, violets, and cinnamon all flow onto the palate, effortlessly. Grip is firm but easy. Finish is pleasant with woody with leaf notes and dark cherry. Decenct structure and easy. A good representation of varietal and terrior

As much as I found the Monte Oton from the night before simple and earthy, but very enjoyable, this was on the opposite end of the spectrum, big, fruity and extracted, but tasting a little fake and not nearly as enjoyable. Still not bad for an $8 wine and certainly drinkable with the steak, but in the battle of the Spanish cheapos, this lost by a good margin.

Dark purple color and deep dark fruit. Smooth and medium bodied with a lot of very up-front fruit. Blueberries, plum, licorice, some chocolate. I am in love with this wine, esp considering the QPR. Fantastic!

Excellent QPR wine for $7 from The Wine Barn. My journey through the wines of Spain has been a success thus far. Lots of pepper, dark cherries with some oak.

Great QPR. Received as a gift. A lot of black pepper and red berries on the nose, taste and finish. A bit tannic but this wine is very young. Very enjoyable and will be looking to buy some more of this one. Strong effort for their first vintage.

Bold, could use to be decanted or wait another year. cherry and hints of oak on the nose. Strong pepper, with mineral and black cherry. Other subtler undertones also are hinted at. Has more of the old world style to it than say Napa Zin style. Heavier tannic finish. With a strong meat meal this would pair well.

Lots of character. Black cherry and blueberry, black tea, damp fur, black pepper, and bright Asian spices. Mouth cleansing tannic finish. For $7, this wine is outstanding.

Typical Monastrell, black pepper for days!!!! It's as extreme in the black pepper department as I've had. But you know what, I like it! This is a great value for its price. Monastrell (aka mourvedre) is not typically bottled on its own, so it was nice to be able to see how it plays as a sole varietal in a wine. This would pair excellently with a steak like filet mignon. Addendum: opened another bottle on May 21, 2011. On this bottle I get loads of vanilla and almost no pepper. Alcohol level of 15% is very well in check.

For $8, there isn't much you can complain about with this wine. As others have pointed out, some heat on the backend that seemed to dissipate after soome air time. Other than that, just a great every day drinker. Donot remember the details as this was drank yesterday. I will definitely buy more.

A garnet wine with a light body. The nose is restrained with vanilla and cherry. Elegant in the mouth with tastes of slightly sour cherry and oak. Definite old-world feel to this wine. The medium finish has sour cherry and oak, which smooths out as it lingers.

Floral and fruity aroma. Hard black pepper to start, smooth finish. Never had this grape before, interesting and not my normal style. All in all nice change of pace.

There is something offputting when it first hits the mouth. Some reviews talk about minerals, and that may be it. There was something almost syrup-like that I did not care for. The finish and aftertaste is pleasant and fruity. I also found it very smooth for the alchohol content. I like the light tannins. My wife thought it was better chilled.

nice peppery raspberry on the nose. palate has some raspberry, with some greenish blackberry, pepper and spice. a bit of heat on the finish, but good acidity allows it to carry the 15% alchohol fairly well. less oak and drinks better early than a juan gil, but may not age as well imo.

Tried this as a potential wedding wine. One of the best value wines I have ever tasted. Impressive complexity and power. A big wine with black fruit for days. A delicious factor that I think will be appealing to many people. for $8 you would be hard pressed to do any better. In fact I think this wine is leagues above most $20-$30 Napa cabs (even some higher). The wine is definitely hot on the back end and has a bit of a porty or liqueur-like quality. Big and in your face. The alcohol is slightly off balance, but the overall quality of the wine, especially for the price point, is extraordinary. Definitely buying a few of these for the wedding. Maybe the alcohol will calm down with a bit more bottle time, but I dont think this is a wine to lay down. Could overpower some foods.

Well, a description of this wine says it was all done in stainless. Nevertheless, I tasted something wood-like in the finish. Maybe it was leaves and earth or other. I have seen wineries use "oak beans" in plastic vats. These are little cubes of oak that soak in the wine during fermentation, sometimes longer. Don't know whether this wine saw any.

Another delicious Monastrell from Jumilla Spain. Needs an hour air time, maybe two, to integrate and smooth out. Concentrated smooth round sweet cherry nose with hint of vegetal. In the mouth lip smacking ripe fruit (cherry, berry), a bit warm on the attack but restrained enough and pleasant. Finish lingers of fruit and hints of leather and wood. Body medium plus, acid and tannin medium plus. Off dry to dry. Excellent QPR as tested.

A restrained nose of black cherry, leading to tastes of black cherry and slight white pepper. The finish turns more interesting with tastes of black cherry and bacon fat on a medium length finish. Overall a solid effort.
