Aged Cru Beaujolais (San Francisco): Deep ruby. Definite barnyard here. Medium weight, excellent mix of blackberry and soil with excellent acidity. Leaner than the Javernières, cleaner than it smells, again very structured and quite saline. Would be outstanding were it not for the heavy brett.

Consistent with previous note; simply amazing wine. Unbelievable freshness to the fruit and such purity. Thirteen years old and like drinking freshly squeesed fruit with amazing complexity brought by mother earth.
If you tried and loved wine from etna, try this and be surprised by the “vulcanic” minerality and depth in this top wine from underappreciated cru beaujolais.
No hurry at all, no Signes of aging except added complexity.

Deep ruby core with watery extreme rim. Aromatically, it leads with some funk, but this never becomes overwhelming. Medium body with a little sappiness. Riper than usual for Gamay but still very lively and not ponderous at all. Terrific mixture of blackberry and dark cherry fruit, a lot of stone, and a blood orange high note. Maturing but plenty of time in hand-you can throw out the suggested drinking window which ended in 2019.

Powerful, but essentially elegant aromatic Beaujolais with earth, plum and red fruit notes all combined in a mid weight crunchy wine. Lovely and still will happily go another 5-10 years. Very impressive.

2009 & 2011 Side By Side over two days 2011 - Nice racy acidity, more herbal notes but still nice coffee and chocolate as well. A pleasant suprise but I would drink now. 2009 - Similar flavors but more body, structure and grip with a more pronounced nose. Seemed younger that the 2011 and still has life and potential for development.

This is the kind of wine-experience that makes a wine cellar truly make sense. Simply amazing. Such juicy freshness to the fruit, amazing acidity. Great complexity including light chocolate, freshly crushed coffe beans, clove.. and tons of cherry/red fruit in both nose and mouth underneath the dominant expression of garrique, garrique, garrique. Still plenty of lovely soft tannin and surely no rush as the acidity will keep this well and evolving for many years. Meditative wine. 94/95
Stunning bottle. Opening for six hours, developing, getting more deep and round, less grippy, but smooth. Amazing how this wine ages. Already tertiary aromas of toast, humidity, fallen leaves, strawberry jam, salt, darjeeling. Less jam and more cherries on palate, black tea, salty minerality. Lifted acidity, clean medium finish. Great gamay aged in oak, everything in great balance, showing age, but in a beautiful way. Drink or keep.

Opened 1 hour prior. Cherry garnet clear rim. Some game notes mingle with alcohol and dark fruit on the bouquet. Slow atttack, building to a medicinally tinged kirsch mid-palate. Some game notes returning on the moderate final.
This is a bit disjointed and heavy handed. The game notes detract and the alcohol seems high and somewhat prickly.

This is super-delicious, exactly the sort of wine Beaujolais needs as an apostle, with subtle hints of baking spice shimmering around a lively but welcoming core of fresh berries. In addition to the cinnamon and nutmeg, this has the other telltale signs of Gamay, that almost bubblegum-like grape candy flavor that somehow comes to the fore in a wine with no residual sugar. Time has resolved whatever tannins this wine might once have had, but the fruity mid-palate is still singing strong, powering through to a long finish. As part of Garagiste's $199 Mystery case, this was $17 or so, and phenomenal for that price.

I drink this regularly for years and there were bottles that felt flat, short or little watery. Not tonight. Great freshness, lifted acidity, long finish. Dark red aromas with touch of pleasant bitterness. 5 years ahead at least.

Half hour decant. Pale crimson, clearing at rim. Kirsch cherry and burnt rubber bouquet. High toned, sweet cherry profile with fine drying tannins on a moderate final.
Very nice although I did not pick up on the minerality that others have noted.

Entry level but very nice, balanced, good volume. Tannins still with time to age. Middle finish. Nevertheless it still has the Burgaud handwriting - the iron minerality. Very good.

Smells Pinotish. still some dusty gamy berry (carbonic?) flavors that need time to Pinotise. Tanins still grippy, need to resolve. Try in 2-4 yrs. Should last 10-15.

This is very nice. Typical ripe round dangerously quaffable '09 Bojo fruit but with a bit more stuffing than most. These never disappoint and this was no exception. This will drink well for 5 years easily.

Beautiful, but so not ready. Broad palate and rich nose, but too youthful to be enjoyed. The way this wine still has to go is so obvious and the potential maturity so deep, rich and elegant, that I almost regret to have opened the bottle. Fortunately is it delicious! My advice is to forget about it for 2 years at least.

Mmm, nummy, nummy. Aromatics are all violet and perfume. The palate is all wet stone and sour cherry. Tart and tight. Light and bright. Beautiful acid. Crunchy. Dry, faintly tannic finish. Sticky and grippy on the upper lip. This seems like it has plenty of structure and is still pretty wound up for now.
I'm not much of a Bojo guy, but with wines like this I think I'll keep trying to get there.

Blind Tasting 2009 Morgons (Rich & Peggy's House, Los Altos, CA): Whoa, big ripe strawberry and cherry nose with just a hint of brett. Light to medium bodied with low to medium acidity. Smooth, silky palate of ripe cherry and strawberry fruit. Nice depth of fruit. (my 3rd, group's 6th)

First, I wrote this: Poured 10 mins ago and now at 21C, this smells of bright cherries and sour plums in a dark wild forest. If you've never walked through a European wood and suddenly come upon some abandoned wild fruit trees with fruit on them, then perhaps you don't know what I mean by "dark wild forest" but fairy tales perhaps give a clue. There're some violets and slightly rotting woods* on the forest floor too. There's even a little minerality in the guise of hewn stone. A lovely nose. Lots of gravel on the palate, with lovely savoury tannins. They are slightly leathery and deliciously chewable. The acidity is very well judged - neither too harsh and cutting nor too lifeless and flabby (woodwind-like?). The finish has a very slight lacticity to it that is almost imperceptible. If I had to criticise, I'd say the very back palate has a slight kick to it, like a leather-scented horse just started away and kicked a little acidic dirt in your face on the turn. Hmmm. It's solid, yet easy. It's refreshing and savoury. It leaves me wanting to take another sip. There are better and more elegant Beajo, but this is still a delicious one. Cooled down a little to about 18C, this smells even more earthen, fallen-leafy; almost-mushroomy, and slightly animally. Even better.
Then, I wrote this: Bright cherries and sour plums on the dark nose. Slightly floral and woodsy. A chewy quantity of sandy tannins and well judged acidity. Back palate is a little harsh. Refreshing, easy to drink, very good.
Which do you prefer?
*I didn't know this was oaked in three to five year old barrels until I wrote the second note, so this certainly wasn't a descriptor by suggestion.

seemed quite stemmy when warm but when cooler is more undergrowth, igenous rock of a basalt/granite persuasion, very dark fruit, a little mouldy strawberry, some VA; grip, great weight, finishes lighter than it starts, moderate length of mineralic fruit.
