Another forgotten bottle, rescued this guy to have with some of my reheated meatballs. I thought this might be gone by now. Cork came out clean, PnP, drank over 2 hours.
Medium garnet color. Nose had some barnyard when first opened, blew off in about 20 minutes. Turned to red fruits and cedar on the nose. Palate of dusted red cherry, spice, earth notes, old wood and leather. Medium finish.
Probably past its peak but better than I thought it might be.

I have to say, if you are only considering more modern-styled Chiantis, this is one of the finest I have had. Beautiful and evolved flavors of cherry, leather, cedar, earthiness, and kitchen spice round out a fine medium-bodied example of Chianti. Again, not for the traditionally-styled crowd, but if your palate is open then this is drinking quite well right now. For $20/750mL, impressive.

Opened this on Turkey Day. Very light tannins, and light bodied. Smooth and simple, with not very strong tastes coming forward. Rather unimpressed, and this bottle was barely touched.
The second day this wine really opened up. Lots of secondary characteristics came out, including earth, ceder, and spices. The fruit was fine, and the body still rather enjoyable. But a much better, more interesting wine. 1st day, 82-83 pts. 2nd day 87-88 points

Very typical of old world, traditional Chianti. Lots of earth, tar & even some lead pencil on the nore and pallet. Not much fruit anywhere at all. All earth and tannins. Not sure if this will mellow with age or just stay somewhat tannic. Tried based on recommendation form Holden Wine & Spirits. $20.

Pretty good, Chianti typicity, good balance, some potential for a couple of years aging, but not the depth one would expect from a good riserva, and certainly not up to the standard of Monsanto from times gone by.

With grilled chicken on a Tuesday night. Grreat nose. The thing that struck me most about this wine is that it's ready to drink. And that's not a bad thing. Classic sangiovese nose. Full flavored. Very soft tannins. Easy drinking. I really enjoyed this wine, and more importantly, Cathy did too. A steal from the $3.99 rack. 4 bottles left.

A hint of toasty oak on the nose but very classic quality sangiovese on the palate with dark cherry and earth.

Fruit with cedar on the nose; great balance; and a great, spicy and very long finish.

Generic, lacking characteristic chianti fruit flavors and even any particularly distinct overtones
