Decent wine. Better the second night. The little that was gassed after that had faded by the fourth night. This wine never achieved what I had anticipated.

Whoops, found this buried in my cellar! Still had a good deal of life to offer, balanced and rich with great depth for a crianza. After a few hours it began to show its age as the fruit went flabby but still, nice bottle overall for 10 year old of this type.

Bright ruby. Quite aromatic in the Spanish manner with abundant fruit (blackberry, dark cherry), spice, and oak (vanilla, toasted coconut). Robust, flavorful, not especially elegant but improves with a beef bourgignon. Some sharp edges mar the finish. Still, in a decent drinking window.

I really like the Condado de Hazo. It is less oaked and more easy going than the impressive Pesquera Crianza. It has more veggie hints to the usual red, blue fruits and vanilla. Impressive density on the four square and tasty layered palate. Ends longish, zingy and savoury.

A couple years in the cellar have done wonders for this wine, which is firmly in its stride. If you have it, drink it. Great balance, something for both the old world and new world fans, nice finish. Fruit is dark, but includes some earthy qualities, graphite, etc. Dark in color, more so than what one might normally expect for Tempranillo. One of those wines that, at the price paid ($17), I wish I had gone all in and gotten a case.

decanted; opens after 1 hour and a half... still leggy though!
to make it short: pencil shavings, moss, leather carpet or coat.., smoke, coffee, blood, raw meet, of course NO kirsch, maybe a hint of darkest cherry and a hint of sweetish raspberry, sour red fruits..tart then cassis, tobacco, tobacco, leaves, large herbal garden, cigar box, rotten brunches - loong lingering finish - what a goal, far cry! soapy and tannic mouthfeel, like!! a crude wine with character that doesnt give a s*** and cuts its own path..mouthwatering reminds me of bordeaux..medium bodied.
everybody rating this wine under 90 is a douchebag!^^ 90-92

Day 1--wine seems to have eveolved a lot in last 9 months. Ready for business with red and dark fruit and medium body. Plenty nice but not particulary complex. Days 2 & 3--wine seems to be tuckering out. Probably best to consume remaiing bottles over the next 12-18 months. Does not seem to have the same capacity for aging as some of its Pesquera bretheren. Good QPR for $18 sale price, but not for typical Atlanta $30+ retail.

Day bright with intense purple colour and fair amount of sediment for age. Strawberry, more strawberry, vanilla and coconut, up front on nose with some leather and turned soil following. Still young and developing. Palate followed nose with soft velvety tannins and round medium mouthfeel with spices. Medium length. Overall balanced wine and very pleasant with meatloaf.

We decanted the wine for 30 minutes before we poured the first glass. It was medium- to dark ruby in colour and offered a slightly dusty nose, with earthy notes, blueberry, blackberry, damson plum, some liquorice, and hints of coffee, leather and tobacco. On the palate the wine felt thick and highly extracted, with red and dark fruits, spices, some liquorice, leather and tobacco, paired with medium level acidity and dry, medium-level tannins. The medium-bodied wine was surprisingly tight, slightly alcoholic, lacked focus and seemed disjointed. I won’t buy it again.

Purple with garnet edges. Strawberry compote, leather, pepper, and earth nose. Medium bodied, cranberries, black pepper, dried cherries, woody tannins, smoke, and a dry tobacco-ish finish. Not too much going on here, but it works for the price.

Rioja vs. Ribera Del Deuro (Beebe House): Decanted before tasting. Cedar, earthy, blackberry, dried cherry on nose. Similar palate. high acidity, medium body & long finish. I really enjoyed this and will buy a few for the cellar. 91-92 range.

Brought to BBQ & had with others. Excellent tempranillo with round tannins, good acidity, nice dark fruit (blackberry & black currant) and leather notes. Definitely more 'old world' & rustic style. This could age for another 5 years minimum very easily.

A nice clean translucent appearance on the eye with a dark core and a dark purple rim. The aromas are expressive showing some refined characteristics that are most often found in top Bordeaux's; the wine exudes aromas of plums, blackberries, kirsch, leather, graphite, incense, oriental spices, smoked meats, crushed stones, and some discreet vanilla on the end. On the palate the wine is rich and concentrated showing sour cherries, and raspberries on the attack leading to a smooth transition into the mid-palate where dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and balsamic flavors appear. The flavors continue into the finish adding a touch of creamy vanilla, cinnamon, clove, and black pepper. A spicy mid-bodied wine that is becoming expressive and starting to open up; nice tart fruit flavors accompanied by racy acidity on the mid-palate that make it an ideal food wine. Drinkable now, but will benefit with two to three years in bottle.

Decanted for 1 hour. Nice red and black fruits with nice freshness and acidity to give it good balance. Notes of cedar, chocolate and spice. Quite a rich and smooth mouthfeel. 25 second finish with some grippy tannins showing even after the decant. Quite good but not as good as the '06 bottling.

Props to Fernandez for having a wine with an intact cork! Cedar and graphite dominate the red and black fruits. It isn't as opulent as past vintages, nor as ripe. But two or three more sound wines, and I'll start to forgive him on the cork thing.

Holiday in Spain - a glut of Spanish Wines; 5/28/2011-6/6/2011 (Southern Spain): Big, fat, ripe and opulent but probably too much of everything to make any single impression. Quite chewy fruit that really just needs a little less oak and a touch more finesse to make it a good wine. I have liked this wine in the past but it can be quite hard going at times - not a wine that you would have more than one or two glasses of without having to give your tongue a scrub.

Dark red, almost black. Lead pencil shavings and a touch of cedar on the nose. The texture is a bit watery. A flash of fresh strawberry that almost immediately dissapears to be replaced by sour raspberries, which dominate. Graphite mixed with cedar on the mid-palate.
