This is far too New World in style for me and, next to the 80 and 85, the 09 Clos de la Roche seemed stylistically dissonant. Sappy, high toned red cherry and red currant with an acidic tang. There's plenty of of substance here, but in a broader context it seems all wrong.

Likely 93-94 but 3-5 yesrs young. Needs minimum 3 hiur decant if you drink now. Sorry nothing more. At Marcel’s DC for Anniversary dinner. Wine was excellent.

From Magnum. Very deep ruby. Helped to open these mags so it could have a couple hours in the decanter as it is a massive wine. Was very closed when first opened. Very hard to get much off the nose in the first couple of hours and couldn’t stay for dinner so hoping the bday boy and his guests benefited from further time in the decanter. Ripe, blue and black fruits, clearly ripe but balanced but just monolithic and a bit uncharming. Palate is beautifully balanced, lots of substance but again, impossible to discern and separate any complexity from the material. Great length of ripe and healthy fruit.
Clearly not close to ready in this format so better to drink the 08, 07, 06 and 04s before this monster. Feels like it years away from being ready for business. Will be interesting to follow but those with bottles in cool cellars should not approach the wine at the moment as it will be disappointing in the context if you are looking for a magical bottle for immediate enjoyment and consumption.

This had the tell-tale red fruits, was quite juicy as well, but a bit lean (even for '09), and very mineral on the palate (which I like), but sandwiched between some other very good wines at the end (pity) and therefore notes are minimal. DD at Cotsen's. 92-93

Tasted blind. Not a big Ponsot fan as his wines are often burly and overripe.. This one was completely different despite the warm vintage. Hey presto! Here we have an elegant wine, crisp and racy with raspberry, earhty scents and spices. Light on its feet. Great showing. 95-96

Blind, I was in Vosne or Chambolle, based on the sort of sweet spice and perfume/floral character. There’s really quite a lot going on here though, the level of detail made it quite hard to pigeon-hole, and honestly kind of difficult to put into writing. Layers of complexity and texture, changing in the glass with every sip. I think it needed a longer decant. Looks surprisingly young and a bit tight in a way, in a nice place but showing no secondary characters yet... it’s all still primary fruit. Could be the Ardea seal. I got the feeling that this is the sort of wine that demands your attention a bit; it should have ideally been shared over the course of the night between a couple, not rationed between 10 people and consumed within 30 minutes of it being opened. But I’m grateful I got to try it all the same, as I am totally priced out of this league of red burgundy.

Dark ruby. With air, an impressively perfumed nose of red & blue fruit, roast meat, and licorice. Sweet red fruit on the palate carries through to a long finish, with sweet flavors of red fruit and licorice that linger improbably long. Nice acidity but a tad high in alcohol and sweetness. Huge but ripe tannins. Ponsot did very well in 2009 but you will need to wait a decade to see this Clos de la Roche at its best. Drink 2027 to 2047.

Leiden below Rotterdam: Nose still a bit restricted but very clean fruit. Taste full bodied, red and dark fruit, tremendous body with great length, spicy, complex, fine round tannins. I liked this very much but think it will get much better with more bottle time. Very very fine.

2009 Red Burgundy - BLIND (NY, NY): This showed poorly given its pedigree. Finished in 9th out of 12 wines. Fruity, forward, cherry, pomegranate. A bit forward. Group didn't care for it as much as others. I liked it, but there were others that I liked more.

From magnum this thing was absolutely rocking. Expressive nose of wild cherry, blueberry, smoked meats and mineral. It has great flesh in the mouth but also terrific detail more akin to a wine from 08. Tannins are sweet on the finish and length is phenomenal.

Really bright and crunchy for an 09. It has sweet, powerful red and black fruits. There’s something reminiscent of sarsaparilla root and it has big concentration without an ounce of heaviness. It is already giving so much and was the most clean and pristine Ponsot of the night.

A fine wine and, much like the 2000 vintage, easy to drink at this young age. It is, however, bigger than 2000. It is balanced, smooth, sweet with just the right amount of fresh acidity, and some tannin. Good length on the palate. Round flavors, but nothing effusive. This is elegant but not subtle. I prefer wines with a bit more age and interest, but you can enjoy this today. It has the tannin and acidity to age. Personally, I'll try another bottle in 2023.

Stunning, especially compared to the 2000. Amazing nose of red fruit, slight hints of caramel. Lingering yet subtle.
Palate - this wine encapsulated the phrase "iron fist in a velvet glove". Rich fruit. Tannins and oak are there, but even at this young age, they are in harmony. Will only get better.

Top 09 and 10 red Burgundy tasting (Capital Grill at Tysons corner, VA): Horizontal tasting is always very interesting and educational as this wine displayed so much riper fruit expression than the others. I am not so sure whether the very ripe fruit was evident in barrel. Black fruits, licorice, flower and earth. Exceptional concentration. Very impressive wine. Ponsot CDRs always seem to show very ripe fruits yet seem to age well.

We had camparative tasting of four wines(two kinds, two Vintages). The purpose is which vintage is better between two great vintages(2005, 2009). Ponsot Clos de la Roche and Vogue Musigny. In Ponsot case, 2009 is better than 2005. But Vogue - I don't know. Because of Not matured or bottle variation or etc(?), I can't evaluate. If I wish, 2005 is litte bit better. I think "Which vitage is better?" is depend on Wine Makers.

VVW Tasting of 2009 GC's blind. Bright red cherry nose, showing little oak but a little medicinal/chemical quality that detracts from the wine. The palate is better than the nose, sweet fruit and somewhat broad and mouth filling but with enough cut and definition to make it interesting. Finishes rich and elegant. Ranked it 7th out of 9 wines.

Popped and poured at VVW tasting, 6 Ponsot 2009s from Bourgogne to CdlR. Initially closed. but with extended air started to blossom. Showing ultra pure black cherry fruit aromas. The palate sports deep full flavors, showing a depth of restrained fruit combined with an elegant, regal, and oh so silky mid-palate. This shows a light but firm tannic grip, and then lingers for a long finish. The best words to describe the 09 CdlR are pure and elegant, and very different from most 09s that have more overt fruitiness and lack the depth and the elegance displayed by Ponsot's flagship wine.

A deep intense nose of red florals and fruit. Big masucular wine with dark red fruit, firm structure and tannins. Very thick and plush ripe juicy and jammy. But yet still exudes elegance now. Best to wait for this.

Grand Tasting - La Paulee de San Francisco (Westin St. Francis - San Francisco CA): Dense, ripe black fruit on nose with great spice. Sweet black cherry on palate with big structure that carried the fruit and spice along for a long, textured ride that is a bit hidden in the middle. Give this a few decades, but I think this might be one of the great vintages for Ponsot in general, and Clos de la Roche in particular. This will rival the Ponsot 2005 Clos de la Roche I tasted for the first time ever yesterday, but this 2009 will most likely provide earlier pleasure than the 2005.

Some Notes from the 2012 La Paulee Grand Tasting (Westin St. Francis, San Francisco): Tremendous depth of sappy yet fresh black and red fruit despite lower acidity than the Clos Saint Denis. The height of seduction with the material to last for a very long time. Great, unbelievable length, in fact, probably would win the award for the most lingering finish of the day if such an award existed. More so than any other bottle, this one made me really sad that I have been priced out of Burgundy at this level.

Achim's Magnum Tasting 2015 (Behrens am Kai in Düsseldorf 1 star restaurant): In my opinion good acidity structure but the alcohol is noticeable and a sign too strong, sweet concentration of red berries, soft ripe tannins, but sensible on the palate, long fruity finish, 93, maybe 95 in the futute
