Drinking very well now. A slight artifact of the signature NSG stoniness asserts itself on opening but then cedes center stage to pleasantly plump pinot fruit nicely framed by tannic and acid structure. Very good. I think maybe drink up over the next year or two? Pretty great quality for villages; $25, I think, on release.

Still pretty primary right now. A hint of earth and iron on the pure, red-fruited nose. More of the same on the palate, enveloped by integrated but present tannin. Really nice earthy quality to this. Clearly Nuits. Not a waste to open now but plenty of development left ahead.

Another great showing of this village level burgundy. The nose is quite expressive with a little barnyard aroma and some bing cherry. On the palate, there is some sour cherry, strawberry, rhubarb, green tea, allspice and it has a medium finish. It has gained in complexity since my last bottle and it is a joy to drink. It seems like it has some aging potential still.

It's now day 3, but at PnP this was showing medium tannin and a nice level of concentration. But now it's day three, dark cherry aromas, light sandalwood to the palate. I'd say a chewy medium minus tannin. Shows more complexity than the Potel 08 Beaune 1er Cru next to it. there's an earthy element that fades in and fades out. Never more than a whisper. some kernel shows on the palate too. Not unlike the Vougeraie Damodes 15 of recent, but not anywhere near that suave texture. a little more rustic texture here.

In a new nice place, generally smooth, round in the mouth, tannins resolved and harmonious. A ghostly remainder of the 2009 burnt character I discerned in younger bottles. Drink cool after a generous airing - say, 45 minutes to an hour in glass, decanter, or partly poured bottle.

Remains one of my fav. Wish one could still buy this in the price point from 10 years ago. Represented great value at $50 a bottle. With the 2016 and 17 now at 50-75% more expensive I am starting to wonder if this is still worth buying going forward for recent vintages. For now the 09 is great!

From memory, a St. Georges villages without the stoney edge of youthful St. Georges or the slightly burnt taste of some youthful 2009s. Surprisingly round and spicy, suggesting vineyards on the Vosne end of the appellation. Really very nice for the $25 tarrif. Lacks the edge of acid ballast to fruit-derived flavors you look for in a Burgundy, at any level, and thus doesn't evolve especially well beyond a day in the bottle. I imagine this is a characteristic of the warm vintage.
While I much enjoyed this wine, I fail to understand demand for it that supports the current $50+ pricing I see for recent vintages.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+: See through crimson with pale rose rim; still youthful on the nose, sulfur, smoky, salami, roses, sour cherry, ripe strawberry; good richness but lighter mouthfeel, riper fruit, hints at blueberry, sappy, a prickle of alcohol on finish; Lee nailed but missed vintage.

I liked this much better on release, but perhaps at that time, I was having it with food or now it has shut down somewhat. The wine wasn't big or "over-extracted" tasting or gloopy or hot, which maybe some might expect in 09. But you can definitely tell this is 09, because there was almost no acidity. It was kind of a revelation to have the acidity and texture and just rely on the sweet fruit and the earth notes. I think this was a lovely, lovey wine. I think year in and year out, it's a screaming bargain. 09, though less enjoyable than other vintages of this wine, is no less of a value.

{Monthly Winos tasting, Decanted and immediately served, tasted over 2 hours. All other wines were Premier Crus} Initial impression was of a candied, simple wine. Later - while young, not candied or exotic, complex strawberry and cherry notes, supple tannins and ready to drink. Delicious. Received 1 of 8 first place votes (no wine got more than 2). Punched way above its weight.

A big fan of this wine in the past as a lovely entry level into Burgundy from a traditional producer. Must say that in this example I was disappointed. The nose is lovely - lots of depth of dark fruit with earth there too. However palette is disappointing: Fairly simple and short lived. Will keep trying (just wish he hadn't got ride of the label design. I liked its old school indiosyncrstic look. )

This needs some air to begin to reveal its charms, as I decanted for about 1.5 hours, and it could have used even more; the nose and palate eventually open to offer notes of ripe cherries, berries, allspice and underbrush, with a rather lush and silky mouthfeel; Very nice in its current form, but will develop some additional complexity with additional bottle age

Like the last taster, I noticed a strong burnt note on opening (reduction?) which didn't really go away until the second night. It's a subtle but vivid wine with notes of tar, spice, and elegant fruit, though more on the palate than the nose at this point. It may be in a slightly awkward phase right now and in need of a year or two, or at least of decanting.
Decent Pinosity, with villages weight and heft. First night a little burnt-tasting, reminding me slightly of the 2009 Germain Teurons. Perhaps this is an artifact of the ripeness of the vintage. The second night, it settled down and knit together better, giving a pleasantly smooth, slightly stoney NSG. Good value at the $25 I paid, but not at the near-$50 I'm seeing in the market now.

I'm clipping through these at quite a rate....and it is hard not to. They are just so damned tasty and approachable. I know I should just leave them in the cellar for a few years but this gives up beefy, brothy aromas with black fruits and stamped through with terroir. It can only be Burgundy...not New Zealand or Oregon or Chile... I know I know I know they will be better in a few years but they cost me £20 per and the other option is to go to the local wine shop and pay more money for something not as good. The tyranny of choice.....

Decent juice here for a fair price. Treads a nice line between young, plump fruit and the more austere aspects of a good Burgundy. Good structure with the acidity and tannins balancing off very well with the fruit - at the lighter end of the Nuit St George spectrum and very enjoyable. Some nice secondary characteristics peeping through. Should drink well for 5 years or so.

3 oz. poured out, then slow-o'ed for 8 hours, then recorked and put back in the fridge overnight. The initial pour had light red color and a somewhat retiscent nose, with sour cherry and earth. More of the same, with stems and spice on the palate, the fruit is pretty wound up. Medium- acidity and medium- tannin.
On day 2, the nose has opened up, with more florals, and it appears the color is slightly darker. The palate shows more maturity, with secondary and tertiary flavors such as leather emerging. Finish is longer, and the balance is just great.
Delicious for a village wine but also quite pricey. 2009 is the real deal in Burgundy, and NSG shows a much more fruit-forward and medium bodied character than in the past 4 or 5 vintages. Doesn't really have enough individuality or uplift to merit a higher score, and the price also detracts. 13.5%

Opened and poured, this wine reveals a earthy dark fruits with spice elements on the bouquet. The dolor is a dark ruby to purple. The medium (full) bodied palate shows balance and concentration with acidity and tannins on the finish. This is somewhat straightforward now, but should add complexity and nuance with additional bottle age.

Fairly dark in color, showing some earth and hint of pine on the nose, then reserved dark berry fruit, hints of earthy raspberry, some rustic tannins, decent intensity and finish. No signs of being overripe or overdone in this bigger vintage; Needs time, and probably a good omen for the Premier Cru bottlings.

Showing great, lovely balance, sleek fruit braced with minerality and acidity. Beautifully similar side by side with a Penner Ash Oregon pinot '10. A bit sleeker and racier than the OR.

Oregon vs Bourgogne: Davis Cup finals in pinot noir; 2/16/2013-2/17/2013 (At my home): Cherries, grass, red and dark berries. Some tannic structure and freshness but a soft mid-palate, quite elegant still.

Some Weekend Burgundy; 12/14/2012-12/15/2012 (Dig Wines and San Francisco Wine Trading Company): Medium ruby. Baked earth scents. Medium weight with sappy center, slightly candied but not overripe black cherry fruit, very good length, round tannins and a strongly earth-inflected back end. Very Nuits and great quality for a village wine.*

Seven-up and ham marinating for the holidays. Kernel in the aromas, but not as much on the palate. ripe and a touch of savory. Red fruit. There's a lot of aroma in the room.

Dark velvety color. Nose offers up small red and dark fruit with earth and spice. Lovely dark ripe fruit with tight tannins and good mineral acidity. Very closed day 1 but opened up day 2. Lovely village requiring 3/4 more years to develop.

Simple fruity and spicy burgundy, will leave the other bottles to develop some complexity. Good value for money.

3 oz. poured out, then slow-o'ed for 8 hours, then recorked and put back in the fridge overnight.

Taut cherry meets minerally chocolate, tannin and youth for sure, but nice earthy herbal fruit notes too.

Really good. Fresh red berries and black cherry fruit with a savoury earthiness beneath and gentle spicy aromatic accents. While it's incredibly primary now, it's incredibly enjoyable now with a sense of real elegance and finesse, great balance and impressive length.

Perfumed lavender nose with some spice box notes. Spicy notes continue on the palate with some cranberry fruit. Good structure and acid. Tannins need a few years to mellow.

Perfectly decent Nuits St Georges village. I expected a bit more fruit given the explosive '09 vintage but no. Go north to Vosne-Romanée for that!

2009 Red Burgundy in Helsinki (Classic Wine Cellars, Helsinki, Finland): Suprisingly acidic for the vintage. Very nice fruit and a good structure. Perhaps not as impressive as the other village wines in this tasting, though.
