Tasted NewYears Eve. Cork came out with some difficulty, broken. Nice ruby color, raspberry, some earthy notes. No brown edges, delicate like a good Margaux. Beginning to fade, but very drinkable, still pleasant.

Some olde sheite SS + ME (Umeå): Upon plop: 82 p Brownish wine. Aromas of a very dead wine: rotting apples and poorly homebrewn apple wine. Extremely terrible. The palate is unexpecedly good. Good fruit, a backbone of tannins, short, rather thin, non-complex. Acidity in the lower register. Apples, leather, Bdx-earth, sumi ink, hay, autumn…
After air: hurgel.
After decant and numerous Mollydooker shakes:

Deep garnet red with brick edges. Layered and aged nose coated in dried cherries, truffles, damp forest floor, wet tobacco, and some light baking spices. Medium tannins (5.5/10) and acidity with a medium body. Delicious and well balanced palate with red cherries, dried currants, tobacco, earthiness and leather. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2025.

This bottle was off the charts. Deep dark delicious ethereal. Wild nose of everything, amazing palette of plums blackberry leather and some lead. No decant needed, held up well for 1-2 hrs. Amazing. Had next to the 05

Took this to dinner to finish off with some friends. Earlier notes apply. This is quite light and ethereal. Went well with quite a low intensity cassoulet.

From coravin. Fully mature. A cold walk on a damp late Autumn day leading a sweaty and saddled horse through a copse on a hillside, slushy leaves under foot, squelching mud, the weak sun struggling to get through the dark and rainy clouds. Glorious.

Coravin fun - Home with the Lascombes (Day Street, Marrickville): From Coravin. translucent with considerable rim fade...garnet core fading to tawny in fact. On the nose aromas of mushroom, saddle leather, brambly fruit and slight touches of volatility. Tilled earth...smells like old Bordeaux. Juicy and brambly, with slight cherry, underpinned by herbaceous notes, mushrooms, earth...Fleshy with resolved tannins offering the finest burr on the mid palate...It's all quite gossamer and utterly wonderful in a lightweight claret way.

Fantastisk god! Kraftfulle mørke bær, skogbunn, kjøtt, lær, hint av blodnoen fine tanniner er igjen. Rik aroma som sitter lenge. Overraskende nok ble denne vinneren på dagens vinsmaking!

Has quite a bit of equine action upon first sniff. There are also notes of leather, black olive, cassis and capsicum. It is fresh in the mouth with bright briary fruits. It has plenty of savoury nuance with the finish just being a little clipped.

Fantastic wine! Very similar to my previous experience with this wine a few years ago with a very generous nose with lots of cedar, spices and barnyard aromas. Palate was in line with the nose with dominant barnyard and earthy taste. Definitely toward the end of it's life though...

Second Sunday Group: Margaux (M's): Shows some age with a bit of bricking. Tobacco, iron, red bell pepper and red fruit aromas. Currant, roasted bell pepper, vegetal and green tobacco flavors on the palate. This really changed the more it sat and I wish I'd have held my rankings a bit and been one of the last to turn them in instead of one of the first. This added notes of tar, red fruit and florals and still has some tannin too. Lovely. 92+ pts.

Mostly cedar box, forest floor and a remiscents of dark fruits still lingering. Showing its age in color but still a bit round in the mouth with a medium body and lasting finish. Quite enjoyable for its age.

I had high hopes for this wine but the nose was especially disappointing. Lead pencil certainly but some off aromas that were suggestive of forest rot or decay. The palate softens after 1.5 hours in a narrow decanter [faster in the glass] and gives some hint of the characteristic round fruit sweetness of the '85 vintage. But overall rather a disappointment considering other '85 clarets. Either sell, or drink, but certainly don't buy.

This was fantastic and a great match with braised lamb shanks tonight. Brown edges and long legs. Very generous nose with lots of cedar, spices and barnyard aromas. Palate was in line with the nose with dominant barnyard and earthy taste. Long finish.

The Usual Suspects (with photos) (Fiddler's Green): In the glass this was violet/ruby at the core with a hint of rusted ruby leading to the meniscus. Scents of earth, manure, truffles, blueberries, and black berries were all tied together nicely with just a hint of oak. Flavors of dark fruits, black currants, chewing tobacco, and cedar box all played out over a medium length finish that was both powerful yet delicate...

Lovely and complex. Changing in the glass as the night went on. Evolving secondary characteristics of tea, leather and earth. Enough light fruit to carry it through.

Sydney Winestar Offline - Peasant’s Feast Restaurant (Newtown, New South Wales, Australia): I was told beforehand that I would hate this, but I much preferred it over the Rhone wine and would have rated this my second favourite wine of the night. Plenty of pencil shavings and cigar box characteristics. This wine is ready to drink now and is unlikely to get any better with additional age.
