The stone-faced Bruno Desaunay produces the Grand Echezeaux for Dominique Laurent. He has started to keep some of his wines back to bottle himself; and now we are importing these rarities. His old vines Vosne-Romanee are located just above Echezeaux, Les Rouges. Les Beaumonts is also in old vines and makes a massive yet beautiful wine. Desaunay’s Les Rouge Premier Cru Vosne is situated above the slope of Echezeaux, but his Echezeaux vines are down in the center portion of that Grand Cru. The Grand Echezeaux are situated right at the point where Clos de Vougeot, Le Musigny and Grand Echezeaux come together - nearly 70 year old vines produce one of the potentially great wines of Burgundy. Bruno bottles without any filtration or fining to express both the force and inimitable finesse of Pinot (the iron fist in the velvet glove image really applies here).
