I've experienced this wine many times since the first time it crossed my path about 12 years ago. Today in 2024, I can say it has likely reached its absolute peak. Although it shows no signs of slowing down. There is definitely no hurry to open this but at the same time everything has really come together and it's singing in its full harmonic potential.

The first whiff off the top made me say green olives and blackberry syrup. And intriguing blend of aromatic delights for sure.

As the wine continues to open it reveals layers of black currant, sweet pinewood, fresh moist tobacco, a little bit of herbes de Provence, In just a little tiny streak of graphite and iron but in the most perfectly integrated way not sticking out like a tired wine..

When you drink it, it seems to crescendo on the palate like a cymabal wash. It leaves this scintillating feeling of sparkly acid and tannins on the back end of your palate.

All the flavor intensity you could ever want is there, All the aromatic intensity. The layers of complexity. The utterly integrated texture and structure. I'm really struggling to come up with anything about this wine that I don't like. It is nearly perfect.

  • 2021 Abundancia Pinot Noir Estate Wine

Tasted through the lineup of this new labels offerings. I'm not here to slander anyone but I did not find any of their wines enjoyable. I don't know, maybe others might find something to like but for me they all had this strange thread running through each and every bottle - whites and reds alike. It's hard to describe exactly what it was but it tasted like a flaw. It was like a nuttiness but not an enjoyable nuttiness. More of a bitter, rancid nuttiness.

I did notice that all of their corks were absolutely mangled and saturated with wine even though they were less than 3 years old. So I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason it was something I tasted across all of the wines was because it's coming from their corks.

But the winemaking was also lacking. Nice color but the structure was really wonky and disjointed with really harsh bitter tannins and super angular acid.

The label is also playing with Tempranillo in the Willamette Valley. I'm not going to leave reviews for those wines because I don't want to Gish Gallup a bunch of brutal scores for an upstart wine label but suffice it to say, the quality level was not to be found in those wines either. Hopefully these guys regroup and find their way a little bit.

Another casualty of the 2020 Willamette Valley vintage, that quite frankly, should have never even been bottled. Utterly destroyed by smoke taint. Undrinkable.

2/14/2023 4:09:00 PM - Jack Cranley, you may be onto something with the Brett issue possibly causing the issue with Brick House wines in recent vintages. I have poured away a few magnums and several disappointing 750s (all stored at 55 degrees), and these were not old wines by any means. Used to be one of my favorite wineries, and not I won't buy their wine anymore for this reason. Sad.

7/3/2012 11:35:00 AM - Hi, big fan of your TNs and also noticed you're from OR. My wife and I and some friends are planning a weekend trip to Willamette this summer. We're always trying to find "serious" OR pinot but not always successful :) We like Evening Land, Evenstad, Domaine Drouhin, Lachini, Archery Summit, Andrew Rich, Freja. If you have the time, would like some recommendations on wineries to visit - good boutique wineries or slightly commercial with good wines/good tasting experience? Also, any tips on how to navigate the region would be helpful. Cheers, Matt from Seattle
