The new 40% bottling is terrible. Entry is OK but just fades away with watery palate and finish and no discernible features. Very little to praise, I didn’t even finish my glass. The old 43% version was OK, but this is very (in)different 86pts.

59.7% and finished in white, tawny and ruby port casks. Very very (dangerously) smooth - doesn’t even need water. Loads of of dried dark berries on the nose and palate, with caramel and a hint of peat. Almost reminds me of sloe - and it dominates. Far from classic but works well and great for a cigar

From a high-fill bottle, looks youthful in the glass - dense. Great nose with lots of cedar, ash and graphite and a bit of funk. Little watery in the mouth but ripe and sweet still. The palate never matches the nose. Good but not great. No hurry to drink though, it didn't fade over 2hrs. 93pts

12/6/2019 11:44:00 AM - Noticing that you have 6 btls of 1967 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva. It's sheer perfection. Absolutely magnificent! You lucky bastard :-)
10/17/2018 1:36:00 PM - Dear Julian, judging by the "drink by date" you either plan to drink a lot before the end of this year, or you are planning to thrown in a nice party! Am I invited? ;-)
Nice list, but I guess you know that already ;-)
10/6/2016 5:38:00 AM - I see that you've deciphered my secret CT identity. Good for you. Let others figure it out, if it's important. Added you as a 'fan', as you have done for me. Good palate seems to be at work in you, and good writing skills.
6/5/2015 4:52:00 AM - Château Le Tertre Roteboeuf, 1989
Advice please. I have a wooden case of Château Le Tertre Roteboeuf, 1989. A fine wines merchant in Northamptonshire wants to buy it for £1500 but has hit a snag in that his secure courier does not service my area of NE20 9AQ Newcastle upon Tyne. jalogan@onetel.com
Can someone advise me the best way to sell this wine which usually is sold for in excess of £2000. Thanks
3/5/2015 4:49:00 PM - Thanks for your note on the Chateau Puech-Haut Prestige. You are correct. I have deleted the review and re-posted it on the proper bottle of wine. This Chateau apparently makes a lot of different wines from their vineyards and I recall it being quite confusing to pick out the exact correct bottle. Having just consumed it probably did not help in that regard.
11/11/2014 7:18:00 PM - Thanks for your message regarding the 85 Cheval! Very interesting and good to know that there's some variability in these bottles and it's not just me. If you're ever in Boston let me know and we'll open a good bottle!
6/7/2014 5:34:00 PM - As I live in Yokohama, half-an-hour from Tokyo by train, and a wife working in Tokyo, we tend to eat in Tokyo at least on Fridays. Will return to Yokohama in late June and stay put until late August. Let's continue via email. Stefan (a) sottelbin (dot) com and certainly looking forward to.
6/7/2014 5:17:00 PM - With better timing, let's enjoy kendo, an Izakaya and next eve some amazing French cuisine and a fine array of wines to go with it. I get a 10% match with your cellar, my cellar being the norm. Guessing that whatever I'd serve blinded would land well :-)
5/31/2013 11:01:00 AM - Thanks for the message Julian- agree completely . Will look for 85 Conseillante and thank you for the very generous offer. Cheers Julian!
