My Grade: VG-. This was highly acidic and reduced even 2 hours after opening but improved greatly on day 2 after vacuvin with simple but pleasant cherry fruit juicy acidity and somewhat coarse tannins. This is a decent table wine, just fine for Pizza night, which is about all you can ask for at the modest price..

Grade: EX+. Modern, extracted style, but not overdone. This wine needed a 2 hour decant to settle down and was even better on day 2 after vacuvin. Overall, this is a really great effort.
Color: Dark Ruby, light rim Nose: heady aromas of intense dried-cherry, cloves, menthol, vanilla, cedar Palate: combines power with elegance, intense cherry, hibiscus, menthol, vanilla, coconut, great mouth feel, great drive with firm tannins on the mid palate. The precisely focussed acidity keeps things fresh, leading to a super-long, dry, sour berry finish. I would give this another 5 years to fully develop, should last for decades. Outstanding QPR.

EX-. Tight and linear at first, much better on 2nd day after vacuvin (1 hour decant on day 1) Semi-opaque ruby, clear rim, long legs Nose: blackberries, graphite, vanilla, leather, slight balsamic note Palate: Plush entry, medium body, primary black and red fruits, good acidity, soft mid-palate evolves elegantly into tannic backbone with a nice long sour cranberry finish. Lacks complexity when compared to its more illustrious neighbors, but then it doesn’t carry their price tag either. Drinkable now with a long decant. Give it 3-4 years in cellar to be near drinking window (see my profile for grades)

6/14/2016 10:17:00 AM - Thanks! I wanted to come up with s system that would allow me to quickly find the wines in my tasting notes that I might want to buy, or buy again (searching for a range of scores does not seem possible on CT). I do think the 100 point system as used by most professional reviewers is becoming almost useless due to rampant point inflation. Moving away from points to a more qualitative grading would be a good thing, IMO, but probably unlikely.
6/6/2016 9:08:00 AM - I like your grading system. I'm probably too set in my ways to adopt it, but I do appreciate your approach.
Cheers and good health
