  • Solid cellaring pays off - paired with a BBQ'd fillet mignon. Impressive fruit presence with a hint of terroir on the finish. Not even a hint of over-ripeness after these nine year from the vine. Contrary to the CT drinkability index, I could have held this for a few more years.

  • Color, black plum; nose, whispy and lean; smokey, tart, smooth with medium body. Became more tannic as it breathed; left poor aftertaste. Not a good vintage. We have a 2003 and will wait to try it.

  • Score is based on day 1, one standard pour. Based on others' suggestion, going to revisit this after a day. Aerated & decanted before pouring. Soft berry, but a bit tart on the nose. Little tannin to note - this just hits me a bit flat, not much complexity but nothing offensive. We'll see if this picks up any more with some time

  • Typical St. Emilion profile with a bit more brambliness than you would expect.

  • Very open right out of the bottle, the fragrant nose shows dark berry notes with cassis and currant predominating. Soft and lush it's round in the mouth but with enough structure so that it's interesting. The finish is good, but not anything special. On the downside, its fruit is pretty much what it has - there's not much complexity in terms of flavor past the fruit.

No idea how this will age - at $25 it's not going to last that long in my cellar.

Day 2 - I decanted half of this into a 375 and left it at room temp (65 or so... ) overnight. Wiith 24 hours, the acids are more prominent, so the wine appears firmer and more structured. Since it didn't really change over 2 hours last night, I assume this took awhile to happen. Flavor-wise, the tone of the fruits is the same, but the acids add some transparency to the palate.
