2012 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary

I see why these ratings are all over the board. If you were looking for the typical caymus fruit bomb, you were disappointed. This year is much more restrained than the last 10, and possesses great verve with a lengthy finish. Yes, there is still oak, but the oak meshes well with the energetic grapes. Not a jammy juice bomb this year, which is also great, but a soulful wine with great character. I'm excited to follow this wine over the next decade. I believe it will age great.

Crazy nose of flowers, gunpowder, charcoal, pine, and caramel. Sweet, smooth entry, cherry and piney cola. A little hollow on the finish, but great acidity. Really unique delicious wine. Fantastic.

Surprisingly youthful. Full strawberry, cherry, and floral nose, taste, and finish. Not incredibly deep, but excellent for a 17 year old pinot. I'm impressed with the staying power...
