I wanted to love this wine (as I did the Haut Lieu) but it is just way, way too young right now. Extremely tight and overwhelming acidity, even with plenty of breathing. In fact, on day 2 I found the acidity simply too much to enjoy. Of course, there are still wonderful flavours there of fermented apples and great minerality. And this will surely be incredible in a few years/centuries time. But for now, I wouldn't go near it.

Excellent wine, albeit very young. Massive amounts of fine tannins, but controlled fairly well at this stage. Lots of freshness and depth of flavour. The wine manages to balance richness and intensity with litheness. Alcohol is handled superbly. Possible to enjoy now (holds up well over 3 days) but has the structure to age for a long, long time. CHF 50 or so

I didn't get this at all I'm afraid to say. Disjointed and awkward overall. Way too hot, even with a day of breathing. Astringent finish too. I can't deny the beautiful fruit on the nose and pallette, and the deft use of oak. But the negatives really do outweigh the positives. 87 is pretty generous here I think, especially given the price of CHF 40. The quality of the grapes is evident, but it's clearly in a very difficult stage at the moment.

10/5/2012 10:25:00 AM - Thanks for sharing your comments on Jordan 2009 Chardonnay. I wanted to make certain which wine you were reviewing: Jordan of California or Jordan of South Africa?
Not masking the fruit with oak and making wines of elegance and balance has been our focus since 1976, so we are curious if it was another winery or perhaps an off bottle.
Best regards,
