I’ve been tasting this wine for something like 8 years - not the same bottle! It’s steadily improved though I think it has now plateaued. My guess is I have 5 years to finish my remaining bottles, but I could be underestimating it like so many others have. The nose is lemony and buttery with some mineral. The palate is the same but (and always has been) weaker but has great texture. Went perfectly with my Thai food tonight.

I’m glad this is my first bottle from a case. Previous reviewer clearly had a totally different experience and I know what that can be like from St Epine. This is now in its drinking window but will last many more years. Really well balanced with sweet blackberry/currant on the nose. On the palette there is luxurious blackberry with some secondary flavors that rise up through my nose. If it wasn’t for the alcohol(only 13.5) I could drink this all day. Though I don’t drink DRC regularly, I can’t imagine anyone being dissatisfied drinking this.
I've had this at least a dozen times over the years, but this is the first time (that I remember) that it dropped most of its tannins. Very soft and smooth and still fruity. Dark and rich. Nuanced, but its not super complex though its possible with 5 more years this will develop. What a bargain! Drank over 2 nights (as usual stored overnight in the refrigerator). Pretty much the same both nights.

7/9/2019 1:53:00 PM - Hi Vintage1949,
I would be vintage1957. Though I agree with Jeff's description in its current state, I would not expect this wine to improve a great deal. I have tried it a few times on the second day and each time came away disappointed. Oxidized. It is a young flashy modern styled wine w/o alot of complexity at this point. I fear that once it looses its fruit it will suffer. It is a little bit of fun to drink, but not like I remember having some other similarly priced wine (like 1985 Lynch Bages) in its youth and loving it - that and 1984 Dunn Napa vineyard made me realize I love wine. Malescot 1985 isnt going to be that kind of experience for most people.
7/9/2019 12:44:00 PM - Greetings-Was reading your comments under 2016 Château Malescot St. Exupéry. Is this a wine that is-I hate to say it-good enough to enjoy? I love the aspects of tobacco and fruit. To be candid I buy wines in the $150 to $250 range. This is only done with a lot of research. However I have had wines given to me as gifts that were excellent in this price range. Looking forward to hearing from you. Note: I can only by a case of the 2016. Dave
