Decanted for a solid 30-45 minutes before the first taste. Drank on the heels of another great cab-blend that was smoky, as usual. So the first taste may have altered that for me. Not sure. The wine was tight at first, then leveled off. Didn't seem as fruity to me, but there was some...probably rasberry, currant..and hints of vanilla and some spice at first. Wine was better at the mid-palette than the finish, but it got better. Drank with a Steak Au Poivre in a very dark and heavy sauce, which went very well. The wine just exploded in flavor with every bite. Last few sips were very very good. By that time the wine has been open for 1.5 hrs and the finish was better. I was getting some chocolate as well.

This wine was superb. Different than pinot's from the Williamette Valley, which I'm a big fan. superior to anything from CA. Was comparing it to my favorite pinot from Oregon, Shea's Block 23. Lighter, with much more subtle complexity. Hints of cherry & strawberry, with a marvelous mid palette and finish. I just bought more of this to lay down, though it probably won't make it, I'll easily consume this sometime soon :)

The first glass is suberb, probably a 92! Smoky, Cherry flavors, with a hint of currant. After that is stays flat and underperforms in some cases. Overall a 87.
