  • 2013 Jigar Pinot Noir Peters Vineyard

Bright ruby in appearance with a clear-water rim. On the nose: Cranberry, cinnamon, chocolate, licorice and strawberry jam. On the palate - light bodied with high acidity. Flavors of red grapefruit, cherry, cranberry, white pepper, cola, vanilla and fruity herbal tea. Lingering, soft-touch finish. Beautifully crafted wine made with special fruit grown on the Sonoma Coast. This will age well over the next 3 to 5 years.

Somewhat hazy ruby in color. On the nose, intense rose petal, cracked white pepper, grapefruit, bright plum and black licorice. On the palate - bright acidity and a wee bit of grippy tannin. Flavors of white pepper, chalk, pine, wet stone, black plum and cherry, vanilla, coffee and black licorice. Conclusion - this is a many-layered creature and keeps surprising as it opens up. I am pleased by the restrained use of oak - just enough to give it some structure and the oak tones of coffee, vanilla, pine, etc. Age worthy indeed! But I like it now as it has big, come hither fruit and loads of sassy pepper. I would pair this with a big, juicy steak and baked potato. I purchased on WTSO for around $13/btl. If it comes around again, I will buy another half case. Great value to share with others over summer dinner gatherings.

  • 2014 Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Gris

Appearance - pale straw. On the nose - pear and wet stone. On the palate - medium acidity with a pleasing, round mouth feel. Flavors of lemon juice, white plum, stone, pear and a touch of honey. Surprisingly long finish for such a restrained wine. Conclusion...this is an elegant and restrained Pinot Gris, as it should be. Enjoy this with raw or grilled oysters, halibut and other simply prepared, light fare. If you have this in your cellar, drink it now. This is truly at its peak and the fruit and acid will begin to drop out in a handful of months.
