  • 2005 Château Pavie Macquin

Dark deep red in colour, much darker then what I would expect from a merlot heavy Bordeaux. Fantastic red fruit driven nose: cherry, black current, plum, … At first relatively high acidity for a 2005 but this faded after 1 hour decanting. Also initially quite fresh and subtile complex mouth. This came more ample, fruit and tobacco driven after an hour. Licorice and soft tannin aftertaste which lasts quite long. This wine is at its summit but will stay here for some years. What a blockbuster! Only side remark: the 15% alcohol starts to feel heavy after the 3rd glass … I was home alone 🙄…

  • 2012 Ugo Lequio Barbaresco Gallina

Bright and nicely transparent ruby colour, slight evolution but 'watery edges'. Nice fruity nose of plum, liquorice. Quite complex red and dark fruits and balsamic tones on the taste. Balanced acidity and some silky but firm tannins. A real nice wine still with potential. Really like it!

  • 2018 M. Chapoutier Condrieu Invitare

Nose of peach and apricot with some honey, typical Viognier. In the mouth a very smooth acidity and nice minerality. Normally I expect a more 'fatty' taste in a Condrieu but this one has real freshness, so white burgundy lovers will like the first mouth impression. The wine is 14% alcohol but doesn't feel like it. The finish is long and with lots of finesse. I have an ambiguous feel about the score I should give: I expected a creamy Condrieu (which I did not get = score 90) but got a fine mineral white with molten acidity (score 94), hence the 92. But after 1 hour it revealed more its true Northern Rhone origins, so perhaps it deserves a higher score. In any case a fantastic effort from Chapoutier!
