Piedmont night: Served as trio of '04, '06, '08 vertical. Was the only thought that this was the oldest since the tannins were drying out the most (that was saying something since all of them had ferocious, unforgiving tannins). Minty, spicy nose; not enough fruit on the palate to stand up to the harsh tannins. A mess of a wine.

Barolo 2004 with the Jeroboam Club (Little Shop and Pantry, Bristol): Youthful appearance akin to the Pajana. A VA-impacted nose, quite woody, but letting through notes of cherry lozenge, rose and strawberry. Tannic and (like the Pajana) lacking flavour and grip. Perceptible oxidation. A less than perfect bottle, not no longer my style anyway.

Rustic nose of cherry, menthol, camphor and cedar.
Beautiful attack on the palate, full of energy, with an expressive and floral juice. The youth of the wine is surprising, with aromas of tangy red fruits, vanilla and spices. The wood is present but integrated into the whole, which is not disturbing. What is more so is the biting acidity which unbalances the wine in the finish and which ends up being quite unpleasant because it takes everything with it.
Bottle problem? What is certain is that we are far from Galloni's score (98) for this beautiful vintage and that Cellartracker seems to point out this latent imbalance on a significant number of bottles...

Annual holiday get-together (St. Genevieve): I struggled a bit with this light yet powerful and tannic barolo. Matching acid and tannin, some rustic slightly pruny fruit. This wasn't as painful as some barolo's but cut from the same cloth and not really my style. I don't see a purpose in rating it, but my enjoyment level might approach 89-90.

It was decent but unmemorable. I was expecting to be wowed, but was ultimately disappointed.
