I think this wine is better a bit younger, in the 3-4ish year old range. Had several bottles in late 2022/early 2023 which were fine, but more recently has not been so enjoyable. Needing more air to open up, and just no longer as impressive as it was when younger. Probably not a wine for long aging.
Now, where can I find some 2020?

This is pretty good but really needs substantial air to open up well. I decanted this with time planned for 1.5 hours sitting before dinner time (having seen another note recommending 1 hour to be enjoyable). Immediately after decanting I took a small tasting pour and it was a bit too hot to be enjoyable. After returning with take-out dinner an hour and a half later, it was better but there was still noticeable heat. Took another 30-60 minutes to start drinking nicely in my opinion. Would suggest planning for 2.5-3 hour decant.

8/7/2023 2:27:00 PM - Yea, hit a rough patch with smokey '20 CF, sweet '18 Malbec, and apple saucey '21 BdCF. Still have loved so many LJC wines, though, so will be back when she returns from her year off.
8/6/2023 4:58:00 PM - No - I haven't had the '22 LJC BdCF yet! Glad to hear it's a return to the usual profile - I'll probably pick some up in the fall.
7/1/2020 4:46:00 PM - Thanks for the Mas Donis tip -- gonna grab some!
BTW, I haven't been keeping Cellar Tracker up to date. It's too cumbersome for what I need it to do. Alas, there is no perfect app for me. Too bad, since CT just needs a couple little tweaks to be useful for me:-(
10/17/2019 12:56:00 PM - Well in that case I'm REALLY glad I didn't make tinto de verano with it! I will look forward to enjoying it properly, and get more the next time it comes round!
10/16/2019 12:52:00 PM - Did you tell me to get the Capçanes Mas Donis?! I thought a salesperson might've pointed it out. I always purchased from K&L online and had my order delivered; but I took my first trip to the K&L store to stock up for my wife's birthday party, a Spanish themed potluck dinner party.
At any rate, I haven't actually had this yet! Perhaps when I cook my next paella. :-)

2020 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Lunlunta

Solid Catena entry-level Malbec. Possibly our favorite of the 3 Appellation series wines. I decanted it but this clearly can be popped & poured.
