No rating, as I don’t know this producer well enough to say what it is they were going for, and how long it may need in the cellar before it achieves it.

Over-extracted to a level I did not even think possible. More similar to a cheap California Zinfandel than anything resembling an Old World titan like Aglianico. Tried it at opening, decanted it for three hours. Cali Kool Aid.

2011 Bodegas Carlos Serres Rioja Gran Reserva

As a grocery-store Bordeaux, this was adequate. Of course, I intended to buy a Rioja, so there’s that. It’s unfortunately quite modern, so any relationship to Rioja is by virtue of the label only. It’s not a sicky fruit bomb like CUNE, mind you, but I would bet my lungs it’s not seen the first barrel of proper American oak in its lifetime. Nor do I taste any indigenous yeasts either. Pass.
