This is getting better. Nicely concentrated, good balance, nice mouthfeel, solid finish. Could use a little more complexity on the nose, but I anticipate this will come with more cellar time.

First the good. For a low end Merlot this is neither thin nor watery, characteristics I find frequently in the price range. The wine shows a healthy dark color and a surprisingly decent nose. Unfortunately the wine's overtly sweet flavor profile is its undoing. Tastes like a new world port, without the alcohol, which is not really how I imagine a Merlot should taste. Blind I would have guessed this was a zin. If that's your bag, you'd probably dig this.

Decanted for an hour before serving. This is nice and open now. Much more fruit than I expected, but there's a solid core of smooth tannins and acidity to balance things out through the long finish. Good stuff. May improve further with additional cellaring. This showed much better than a bottle I had ~ 2 years ago. Happy to have one more.
