When first opened the wine smelled of intense leather. That calmed down some over the hour it was enjoyed but I think it would have benefited by people taking their time and drinking over 4-5 hours instead. Couldn't stop the dinner guests though.

Upon opening it was intense pepper nose. After two hours that calmed down and blended with dark cherries to create a very pleasant wine. It did not start as a favorite when opened with another bottle but after it was open for a while everyone liked this one.
