  • 2008 Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein Winninger Uhlen Riesling "R" Roth Lay

WOW... fantastic wine... Scent of minerals paired with some fruits of lime, apple and pineapple. Slate minerals all through the nose and still yeast (for a 2008 remarkable). Rich, slightly acidic body with same fruit and papaya finish. Goes well with asian, spicy cuisine... it lacks a little style in the very end ... it is a little dull... (without food)... but defenitely a great wine.

  • NV Freixenet Pinot Noir Elyssia Brut Rosé

One night when I was on baby duty and my whife was taking care of the restaurant I went to buy some groceries and cleaning equipment for the house. Surprisingly there was a sale on some sparkling wines ... freixenet, Heidsiek Monopol, some spumante and so on... completely unexpected for this type of establishment, trust me.

The Elyssia had a promotion on ist - The best cava in the world - selling for 11 Euro - fantastic - verdict was done.

So after some time cleaning I sat down and opened this bottle - no vintage on the lable, 10.5 % alc. cool. Fridge temperature.

Fresh, shlightly yeasty nose, trace of the pinot but then more peach and lemon...
Very nice mouth feeling - very desolved carbodioxide... the bubbles actually last all through to the stomach. Sex on the beach dark rose, intense colour. Nice Pinot on the palate, mouth full of cava. I am not an expert on Cava nor on champagne wines. But compared to the Piper -Sauvage rose some weeks ago defenitely the better value for money. It has got a nice easy drinking structure, slightly tannined on the tongue but not unpleasant. Full fruit, remains on the tongue for minutes.

I like it. Generously 90 Points because it feels realy good right now. I might drink the whole bottle ;-)

  • 2008 Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein Winninger Röttgen Riesling Großes Gewächs

This is a nice wine and I am happy to have more in stock. Nice slate in the nose, rounded up by a ripe citrus-peachy fruit. A bit floral. On the palate it has a very complex, mineral bodied with a typical 2008 flavour. It must have been ripe, high Oechsle grapes with a low yield. Very powerful. Either a high fruit extract level or a RS above 10 to present this full body. Probably both of it. In combination with the 13 % Alcohol it is a ideal food pairing to veal with tarragon sauce and stir fried asparagus.

7/3/2012 1:29:00 PM - ***please note: of course my ratings and descriptions on Lauer Riesling is preconceived though I try to look at it from the perspective of the consumer, which I certainly am ***please note further that Mosel Riesling is a very complex wine type because they can range from dry table wines to sweet auslese; each style qualifies for a certain ocasion or matching food, please check out the german wine lable on the following website: http://www.wineloverspage.com/wines/labels.phtml - contrarily to the idea of a general international wine critique each category offers over a thousand wines per vintage from different producers along the Mosel with different qualities; the problems faced in most international wine guides is, that only few sweet specialities from famous produceres are considered as high quality wines, the average wine critique fails to recognize the vast variety of different wine types available; each wine in a category can achieve a high score when compared with other wines of the same kind, ***the challenge in comparing Mosel Riesling is that many producers under and over state their product according to the markets demand, it would require some experience to place the wine into its actual category and then compare with the same for example my brother makes that very hard to achieve, because he does not categorize his wines at all apart from the sweet spätlese and auslese, please also see the reviews of Jean Fisch and David Rayer from www.moselfinewines.com
