2019 Alois Kracher Pinot Gris Trocken

Pinot Gris is probably not in my typical wine profile because it is generally lower in acidity and sweeter than other whites, or at least more so than Pinot Grigio (the style, not the grape). In the nose after about 10 minutes in the glass, I can smell honey and a small amount of tropical fruit. It lingers on the tongue, moreso than in the throat. In fact the taste coats the mouth for quite a few minutes. I would call it medium full-bodied. I have heard Pinot Gris described as oily, and I can understand why, though I don’t think that would have come to my mind independently. It’s a bit tangy as well. It’s easy to drink. I feel sad that it was in the bargain bin.

2020 Domaine des Deux Roches Mâcon-Villages

The nose has pineapple, that lingering smell detected on the inside of an emptied can. But more subtle (no unpleasant metallics). Sometimes it almost takes on a bit of creamy banana. But there is also something definitely toasty. Reminds me a bit of … champagne. Very good. Especially the nose.

2021 Firestone Vineyard Riesling

The nose had a bit more lemon citrus, maybe a bit less floral. The body was acidic, bouncy. However, there wasn’t enough flavor in the palate for me and there was also something that tasted odd to me at the end. I’m too much of a noob to know what it might have been. I don’t think it was flawed, just something I didn’t like. Importer (?) is Foley Food and Wine Society. Haven’t heard of them before. That always worries me a little.
