This is a rather typical Cotes de Roussillon. Grenache red fruit touch of white pepper and earth. It is a relief that it is not overoaked. That said, I don't get the hype and the price.

Bought on release. A really sniffer. Damp earth, fresh mushrooms , dried roses, backdrops of red fruits. Balanced acidity. spinning mouth with a melange of terroir driven flavors matching the nose. Finish is long and evocative of walks through the woods on a warm autumn day after leaf fall. This is really lovely.

This is a simple expression of Burgundy. Too simple given what is available from other areas of the world in pinot noir. Nose is subdued, slight red fruit. Mouth shows diffuse red fruit with little of the character that separates even a good village wine from the pack. In fact, it does not measure up to even a decent Bourgogne. To see this in a pretty good year like 2009 is evidence that you either pay up for a really good Burgundy or you are wasting money. What is Domaine Drouhin thinking here? And what are the wine reviewers doing of to give a good rating to this effort?
