One review used the adjective 'scouring'. The astringency is there. But this has some good things going for it: a tart cranberry flavor, clear Rioja terroir, and a charming slightly bitter note which I can't quite name. The bottle calls this "bay leaf", which works...but it's a bit peppery too.
I paid around 7 bucks. 83 pts. This wine has one special thing going for it: perfect to pair with pepperoni pizza. Cuts right through the grease and compliments the spice nicely. Might have a couple years to go, too.
