7/14/2018 8:25:00 AM - I bought some Barolo from Zachys in New York. All of the wine was rated by their go-to critics: JS, whomever.
All the wines were rated in the 90s, many 93-95. I expected very good wines, at least distinctive.
I was very disappointed. The wines were just bland. None were DOCG, so maybe that was the problem. I remember an '83 DOCG Barolo which was very good.
It seems to me that the rating systems, however it is defined, should be adjusted so that any wine in the 90s is very good.
I put these wines in a 70% category, i.e., just average.
I sent Zachy's a note expressing this, but of course, haven't heard from them. I wasn't even expecting a refund.
Has anyone ever seen a wine rated in the 70s, 50s, etc? That would seem more realistic.

BITTER finish. Berry notes at first. Need garlic to mask the bitterness. Might be better with another 2 years of aging.
Shame
