Had it last night at dinner. A friend brought the 01 which showed much better, had more stuffing and an exotic bouquet versus the 03. 03 was a subdued, correct wine, balanced , medium bodied but overall muted flavor profile. Seems too old to be in dumb stage but over 1.5-2 hrs it didn't open up. I preferred the 01.

3 members of the Commanderie de Bordeaux's Philly Chpt had this wine blind at lunch today. We went through the progressions eliminating differents appellations and finally said it was a very well-aged St. Estephe. Beautiful burnt wood, grafite, crimsin rim, but after an hour lively brambly fruit and a tinge of spice emerged. Never understimate the quality of an aged Ridge Zin. An exceptional wine 45 yrs old.

We had this and 11 other Grange Hermitage from 1967 to 1985 (plus 2003 as the control wine). The 75 bested the 71 by a couple points. Good crimson color, fresh dark beeey flavor, some menthol and graphite on nose. Medium body, tannins diminished. While i preferred the more symmetrical 71, this wine was the favorite and fully mature. Great wine.
