  • 2007 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino

My new favourite brunello at this QPR. 60 min slow decant in large glasses, drank at right temperature, such a pleaser. Sweet notes of cherry, earth and a good tannins structure. Best enjoyed with food such as soft cheeses, anitpasti or light meat based pasta.

Big thick bottle makes me a superhero. Dark deep colour, hugs the glass, almost a forgotten vampire baby that has never seen the light and i’ve awoken it with a decisive caress.

Decanted - tasted at 45 min, 60 min - drank from 90 min to 3 hours. This needs 90 minutes as a bare minimum - next time would do 2.5 hours if younger than 15 yrs.

Incredible legs - a real spider man to my glass. Thumping me in the in the face like a young Amarone. Prunes, bitter jam, sweet cherry, smooth tannins and hints of silk to come - covers mouth like a thin blanket on a cold winters day; I need more. Finishes with hints of damp leaves, wet hay and a hints of tar in between my teeth. I'm smiling but this should be better.

Less refined and spectral as the 2004, definitely too young, needs at least another 3-5 years. This is a big angry woman that needs more sleep - don’t wake her up yet - you'll enjoy it but afterwards you wish you would have given her another hour. 2020-2025
