Cab/Merlot blend. Lovely blackcurrent with a bit of cedar & cigar box. Good extract with soft tannins. Some liquorice and black olive. One of those reds you like to keep drinking because the range of flavours and angles. Middleweight not heavyweight. Suprisingly fresh acid for a 13 year old wine (a positive), so probably plenty of life in this wine still to come. A $90-$100 wine, so should be high quality, which it is.

  • 2007 Trinity Hill Tempranillo Gimblett Gravels

Quite a gutsy wine, strong blackberry & blackcurrant on the nose and palate. Nice florals on the nose. Palate adds good extract, some tannin and nice liquorice flavours. Clearly tempranillo. Perhaps a little rough, missing some finesse. Tasted fairly young for an 8 year old wine, might improve with age for another 2-3 years. Excellent drinking for a $30 wine, very good value for money.

  • 2000 Esk Valley Cabernet Merlot Reserve

Very enjoyable old red. Soft, very easy drinking, tannins well integrated, some black olive and earthy characters. You can accidentally drink these wines quickly, they're so mellow. But the non-descript bouquet was a disappointment, nearly snorted it into the lungs trying to find evidence and also expect some gentle fruit characters on the palate for wines of this calibre. So not that super for a $55 wine which was highly rated by the critics when I bought it.
