  • 2017 Wente Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Charles Wetmore

2017 opened in 2024. First time having this and at this price point, I’m very impressed. Strong red fruit on the nose, along with some hints of cocoa. Extremely approachable and drinkable. Smooth throughout. Tannins are not overly oppressive. Would absolutely purchase again.

  • 2017 The Terraces Zinfandel

2017 vintage opened in Nov 2023. Very good and may have some more to go in cellar. Spicy (with some black licorice present) and jammy with great balance of tannins and a soft finish; but feels a bit young; like I should have waited a few more years to open it. Yet, I’m not complaining and love this wine.

  • 2018 Domaine des Lises Crozes-Hermitage

Very good on the nose. Too good. As a 2018 which I’m drinking in late 2023, perhaps I must let this open up significantly? But the nose is a bit of a liar; on the palate it’s just not quite there. It’s a bit “green” at first sip. I don’t really taste what I thought I would and it moves from flat to very unbalanced as it finishes. I can’t pick out whether this is tannic, bitter, sour or all three in an odd proportion (with a rather noticeable bitter finish as it hangs around in my mouth). I also can’t really make out in the taste what I had smelled on the nose. I had thought this was sort of in the middle of its drinking window but maybe not. I’ve had much better French reds at this price point. I’d also note that a straight 14% abv is a bit on the high side for French wines. Not terrible but not one I’d race to buy again.
