This was a great and an extremely unusual wine. The tannins and acidity that I was complaining so badly before have faded away giving way to floral and currant/blackberry tones... and something else that kept evading my tongue and my mind! Decanting was very helpful in bringing those notes up forward. Excellent powerful body. A very impressive wine. If you can get a good Norton and manage to keep it in your cellar for 3-5-8 years, you will be oh so glad you did that.

I've opened this bottle a bit too early. I've tasted St James 2002 Norton couple of years ago when it went on the market -- it was just harsh tannins and acidity. The tannins have softened out a bit, but there is still some way to go -- this wine will benefit from another couple of years in the cellar, and gain at least couple more points in rating, judging by the progress it made. Although Norton is often said to be "Missouri's Cabernet", the taste is distinctly different -- this one was showing spicy chocolate notes that I don't seem to recall in any other wine.

Golden straw in color, sweet and slightly bubbly, raisin and orange in taste -- a perfect summer sip.
