Shockingly, not dead in the water. Definitely over the hill, but was not completely gone. I was astounded that this wine lasted this long when most of their bottles today aren't cellarable for any length of time.

Gorgeous. I forget who graded this highly some years ago, but they had great foresight. Where before this wine was thin and mildly pleasurable, it has now developed unctuous mandarin orange and papaya nectar like attributes, and is a beautiful wine. If you can find it, buy it.
Kind of blase next to Barrister's other offerings, the 2012 merlot was enjoyable, but a little disjointed. Would pair well as a red to go with chocolate, but didn't leave much of an impression. I'd stick with Kontos for Washington merlot of this price range.
