Oh boy is this good. 12.5 pct alcohol, so bloody elegant and then again so archetypical N Rhone with beef blood, iodine, game notes but zero Brett. If there was a role model for great aged Cote Rotie this would be it. Going strong and improving with time in glass so neither a hurry to drink nor a crime to pull the cork. Beautiful.
My first time with this vintage of La Romanee and a real priviledge to taste during a luncheon with L-M. Three bottles were opened and all were very consistent. Initially as one would expect it is a young wine that needs some air in the glass to reveal incredible balance, some wonderful pine nuts on the nose, a very ethereal mouthfeel with formidable texture and energy. It kept growing in the glass and most definitely a wine I would hold off on for 10 years to reveal it's full potential which seem enormous if it is in your cellar. However, as with all CLB wines, it certainly drinks today already (if you must)! 97 for me today but it will have the potential to add another point or two no doubt. Special by any means and most certainly incredible for the vintage.

Very pure, concentrated, precise and highly mineral with a packed blue fruit core that relaxes over time with air in the glass to turn highly seductive. Hinting at a great potential with 5-10 years more in the cellar. 512 bottles made and we shared a few bottles which were all super consistent.

3/26/2021 10:10:00 AM - Hi Motz, many thanks for that endorsement (*blush* - especially coming from someone with over 10k tasting notes on CT!!!, that certainly makes my week). Happy sipping!
9/2/2014 7:08:00 AM - Hi Ban I don't recall off hand if I have had any champagne by Cedric Bouchard, but the Bouchard family makes very good wine from Burgundy, so I would think he has some good experience with the varietals. I have tasted a lot, in mass tastings and don't often get to writing TNs on all of the sparklers, but I like most styles of champagne or at least can appreciate them. I have only had a few that I considered undrinkable, when younger, or aged enough to have the acidity mellow a bit.
On Talbot, 2010 is very good, but it was a very good vintage and for the price Gruaud-Larose is the wine to buy as it is their best since the 1982 which so many loved and only about $5US more. I suggested 2011 because the off-vintages or just okay is when you really see the impact of the good wine consultants and the extra effort of sorting with a light board, the new equipment in use with the old stuff gone. I will buy a couple bottles of the 2010. The 2009 is quite good as well. Talbot is probably the biggest Chateaux of all the classified growths in hectares, so they really need to get everything down with such large volumes. Anyway, I love the Leovilles, all of them and Talbot has its fans and critics alike. I just think the closer to Pauillac the more you get those fun secondary and tertiary characteristics. Thanks for the note.
