Been a while since I saw this old friend...
High shoulder. Cork was starting to lose it's seal. This bottle originally sourced at auction had not been kept in ideal conditions these past 3 years, so it was interesting to see how it turned out.
Colour dark red and bricking at rim.
Nose of tobacco, violet, dried herb, camphor, sweet dark fruit.
Clean. Faint licorice/aniseed.
Palate was dry, soft and balanced with tannin's completely dissolved, sweet plumb.
This example, on the downward, but still, a great example of the vintage
at 43 yoa.
Well kept examples should sail through a few more years yet.

Cork was in good condition. Deep dark red/crimson.
Nose: full sweet dark berry compote. Some oak, sandalwood, spice, black pepper. Clean and fresh. Just a hint of camphor and lilac. Rich dark velvety fruit with oak. Lovely perfumed nose. Alcohol was not noticable or out of balance.
Tannins have softened since last tasted 7 years ago. Balanced palate, juicy, mellow, if anything finish is a little short.
Lovely drinking now. At it's best now and for 5+ years

1996 Wendouree Cabernet Malbec

A second bottle opened today.
Simliar details, excellent cork and similar tasting profile to previous tasting note, however, this example was a little more 'alive' and robust.
Bottle variation/cellaring history could be in play, as was sourced from auction.
Overall, very pleasant experience.
