  • 2011 Wiston Estate Winery Brut Rosé

Very surprised by the lack of love for this rosé sparkling wine. I thought it was absolutely outstanding.

A supremely elegant rosé with subtle aromas of wild raspberries. They are followed by strawberry and cream notes with almost imperceptible hints of almond patisserie. The palate is resonant with yeasty, rounded autolytic notes and the mousse is lively but soft and the finish is long.

Delicate, well balanced but also very powerful. Would definitely buy again. Well done Wiston!

  • NV Bollinger Champagne Brut Rosé

Tried the Bollinger Rose NV again about 3 years after I'd originally had it and was astounded by the transformation. It's a completely different wine and all the better for it.

It's much more delicate wine than it used to be. Whereas in the past, it was a very red champagne and not dissimilar to Charles Heidsieck Rose NV, it now has an almost golden pink hue. Very different.

Maybe lacking some complexity but it's a much more balanced, pleasing champagne than it was several years ago.

There are aromas of redcurrants, cherries and wild strawberries accompanied by an almost imperceptible amount of spice.

Soft red fruit flavours are found on the palate and this is balanced by a good level of natural acidity with a long, creamy finish.

Definitely much better than before. Will be getting again!

  • NV Tsarine Champagne Tzarina

This was a very enjoyable bottle of Champagne. It has an extremely pleasing rich golden colour. When in the bottle, it looks incredibly expensive and has greater visual impact than much more expensive champagnes.

The bouquet whilst initially closed opens onto aromas of toast, acacia honey, apple, cinnamon, passion fruit and grapefruit.

This wine has very good acidity and lots of fruit on the palate. It's a complex yet extremely well structured and accessible champagne. I'd agree with Karsko that this is superior to a Dom Pérignon from 2004 (maybe not as good as the Dom from 2003 though).

It's champagne that can definitely be aged. Just about 93 but could be a 94 with correct ageing even though it's an NV.

This is a champagne that will go down very well at a party. Highly recommended.
