We were stunned with the nose, taste, and quality of this wine. It was a winner, with red fruit, acid and body that worked beautifully with steaks on Bastille Day. A classic Bordeaux.
Being a collector of old Bordeaux, I had low expectations of this wine. I purchased this case upon release in the early '80s and taste a bottle evey now and then.
Yes, I stood it up overnight, chilled it, opened it with extreme care (the cork actally held together) and decanted it. She opened up during the course of the meal, and became more complex. Medium bodied, surprisingly balanced with none of the characteristics we expected of a fading classic from a 'bad vintage'. Baloney. Its Bordeaux from a Grand Cru chateau, and she showed her pedigree.
I'm happy we have more in the cellar!
