When initially opened it displayed a surprisingly ripe bouquet with notes of passion fruit tempered with cherry and blackberry. After 2 hours slow ox it started to exhibit more secondary characteristics with notes of forrest floor, mushroom, and baking spice. Impressive effort compared to other domestic pinots of this age I've been drinking lately.

I agree that this is an unusual pinot noir, but wouldn't say there is any syrah in here as other people have mentioned. Upon opening, it had a huge nose consistent of bright dark fruits with a hint of citrus. It was decanted and 3/4 of the bottle was drunk over the course of 4 hours. Honestly, there wasn't a lot of evolution during this time, as the wine continued to drink like a very concentrated ripe, but well made pinot. Drank the remaining 1/4 bottle on day 3, at which time the bottle had developed an overwhelming aroma and taste of black currant. At this time the bottle had a slight raisiny quality, but not excessively and it still remained pleasant, but perhaps less characteristic of its varietal. So in conclusion, a very impressively concentrated bottle of ripe pinot. While this is not a style I typically prefer, it is impressive nonetheless, and I would definitely recommend it for its uniqueness if nothing else. Given its evolution, I'd recommend drinking these within the next 2-3 years.
