  • 2022 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

Just received last night and figured, why not.
I always enjoy receiving these and they are never the same wine twice. Still recall the quick opening of the 2018 that sent me blasting into the market for more and more I found, a dozen more.
I don't think this one will have that same effect on me.

I also never recall a RM Pinot being totally devoid of a nose.
The palate show some pretty fed fruits that certainly need some time to integrate. Pomegranate, near ripe strawberry and a touch of orange peel. It's interesting for sure but I would never pin this for a SC Pinot out of a yones cantina. It has nice balance and deftly made but duh! It's a wee-bit young ya think?
I think you'd be wise to hold for at least a year I know I will on my other 3

  • 2018 Farella Vineyards Merlot Coombsville

dark color. nose of blue berries, creme de cocoa and steamed meat, think Syrah. Notes of sassafras and cardamom. It is quite interesting. Palate shows macerated blueberries, pomegranate and black cherries. This has some nice intensity and fullness. Nicely balanced with some full tannins with a bit of mid-palate awkwardness; this needs two years or so me thinks. Long and somewhat flamboyant, this style is all Napa and a real crowd pleaser.

  • 2012 Cantine San Silvestro Barbera d'Alba Superiore

good color. still shows bright. nose of petroleum jelly, blackberries. Palate shows lively balance of dark red fruits; good purity some interest. I never know what to expect from these old Barberas and but is very nicely resolved and really better than I was expecting for $13. Finish stays true. Served with fresh agnolotti (plin brasato) in veal broth. Bravo!
