2/24/2019 4:57:00 PM - So with this post I am attempting to try to provide a brief little bio of how I developed my wine habit as it seems suggested here it would be good thing to do for others to get to know the person behind the wino. So here goes; I came to wine at an early age. My grandfather, who moved to America in the late 50s from Apulia, Italy, used to mix half red wine and half 7-up for us when I was 5 at Sunday afternoon dinner after church, which was a weekly occurrence. I left wine as I moved away from home for college and then when my wife and I decided to go to Portugal for our honeymoon in 1996 I decided I better learn about port. Going there my intention was just to drink port, however, the wine was so inexpensive and good I ended up drinking a half bottle of red almost every night. It was hard to say no when a split was only $4. Coming home I started drinking the inexpensive Portugese wines from our local wine shop and slowly gravitated toward other people I knew who were enjoying other wines. This developed my taste for cabs, mainly Napa, and evolved into drinking Bordeaux, which is perhaps my favorite still. As these Napa cabs and Bordeaux wines started to get a little too pricey for my budget at the time I moved to Rhones and CdP wines and also to super tuscans which were mostly not priced out of orbit yet. I explored Aussie shiraz and blends as well at that time and have come to the point now where I enjoy many different red wines of all different grape varieties. Even some whites too. I may still rate a good aged tawny port as my favorite wine to drink and my go to drink. Recently though I had my first experience with Sauternes and tawny port now has a serious competitor for my affections. At the end of the day I just love wine.
