Leather, cedar, mint, green pepper, asparagus, on the nose.
Twenty years on, the acid and tannins are harmonious and show finess. This wine is tremendously well made, with a beautiful mouthfeel and structure with a huge bloom on the front end and a lingering finish.

Concentrated red fruit and reasonable oak give way to floral secondary notes on the nose. Pepper, strawberry, and cranberry flavors are pretty enjoyable. Big tannins and medium length, medium plus acidity. A pretty well made wine, great at the price point and enjoyable to drink. Extra fun that it’s 100% Graciano, a grape that used to be common across Rioja, is now very scarce. Worth buying.

19 months in French is a lot of oak! However, on the nose the first note I get is that this is a well made wine. Following are notes of green bell pepper, tar, earth, tobacco and cedar. A spicy and bold front end give way to layers upon layers of oak through a mid length finish. It’s a somewhat interesting, somewhat yummy wine. Somewhat worth $40.
