In a lineup (for no other reason than coincidence) of '89 and '04 classified Bordeaux. Showed its stuffing beautifully, with mature but still quite vigorous and powerfully aromatic herbs, dried fruit, funky earth, with that nice aged bloody/mineral/dripping ripe Merlot character. Tannins were fine and very integrated, and there was nice juicy acidity. At a table of dedicated, well-informed, and well-drunk Francophiles, this wine was greatly appreciated and stood up rather well to the other wines on the table. With the tannins and acidity and fruit still kicking, I will slowly work my way through my remaining 3 bottles over the next 2-5 years. But then, I like aged wine. If you like younger, more forward stuff, drink up.

First bottle oxidized. I guess that's what you get sometimes with 26 year-old wine...
