Lovely wine, easy drinking by itself and doesn’t necessarily need a pairing. 14 years and it kept quite well. Notes of cocoa, oak and cedar. Dark fruits including plum and cherry, a touch of pomegranate. Baking spices. Read that this had harsh tannins but after 14 years it’s much softer than what reviews would indicate.

A very unique wine. One of the only made in the US as the grapes are more common in Hungary. Not my favorite although I could appreciate the wine’s character. Pineapple and tropical fruits initially, followed by clear citrus notes. Zesty and crisp.

Generally I love Chateau St Jean for it’s chardonnays. This was one was good, but not great. Perhaps partly because I drank it past its prime? In any case, great minerality and moderate acidity. Bright citrus and lemon curd. Some lychee undertones. But not as much depth or layers that I’ve come to expect from Chateau.
