Wine is definitely my mistress! And I have one in every port: France (Bordeaux); Australia (Barossa) and of course my first love in (and is) Napa!

My profile picture is of what I think is one of the most beautiful places on earth - the Hill of Grace in the Eden Valley.

  • 2001 Mount Mary Quintet

Bought on release, stored properly and rewarded for my patience. Decanted for 2 hours prior to serving with Australian Waygu filets - a wonderful pairing. The wine, visually did not hint at its age - it was bright with little bricking. The nose was classic forest, earth and just a hint of eucalyptus. Besides the eucalyptus it was very classic Bordeaux aromas. The wine has a medium depth but enough to provide a very full mouth feel and offers a long finish. Flavor is as expected - earth, lead, black fruit and still very fresh with a slightly acidic presence. Very enjoyable and may wait another year or two to have my last bottle.

  • 2002 Gargiulo Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Money Road Ranch

So the published “drinking window” for this wine ends in 2012 - who comes up with these?! Bought the wine at auction because I am a supporter of this winery. Basically a PNP but it probably was open for about 30 minutes before we started with it and paired with charcuterie. The wine is still stunning, great acidity (which tells me it’s not going away anytime soon) and no real bricking on the edges. Nose was full bodied with black fruit and some savoriness of sage and tea. Similar on the palette, long finish with a full mouth feel. If this wine could talk, it would say “the details of my demise have been grossly exaggerated…”

  • 2009 Booker Vineyard Syrah Fracture

Bought on release and stored in cellar since purchase. Still going strong. One hour slow ox and poured through an aerator, consumed over two hours. Served with burgers and it was outstanding. Structure still in place, sweet, lush black fruit dominates the palette. Last bottle, sorry to see it go.
